e30's with battery in the front

Hey guys,

Do only e30 verts have the battery in the front? Any idea if it's suppose to be strapped in or bolted down..

i also need a new battery for next year... any preferred brands or specific specs i need?

thanks

so for the guys that have a battery in the front.. does it just sit in the train.. or is it bolted down somehow?

Should be bolted down.

E30 Tourings (not ix's) have battery in the front.

I don't recall the name of the battery I'm running in my Touring, but, it's defiitely bolted down, not strapped.

I'm running an Optima red top in my 318is (in the trunk) with no issues, so I don't know if the optima would fit up front under the hood

There is a site called realoem.com. It has exploded veiw diagrams for just about every BMW. Check out this site and you should be able to figure
out how it should go in. It should also give you the parts numbers of the peices your missing.

My battery is in the front in my vert too... I checked realeom.com, and bought the mounting parts from the dealer. I can't figure out how to keep it down though, so I just left it. You wouldn't think these things would pass a safety with our batteries loose, would you? And yet...

what parts did you buy? part 13?

johnnynapalm 11-10-2009 11:03 AM

part #8 clamps down over the lower "lip" of the battery holding it very firmly in place...at least it does in my car...I don't use the strap

calegrant 11-10-2009 12:29 PM

There are three methods of holding it down using pieces found in that diagram. Obviously #13 to strap it down, #8 to hold it down from the front, and #7&11 to clamp it in. I ran my 320i for years without any of these and it stayed in fine :P
