e30 m30 upgrades?

my car is under construction for the winter and i think ive decided to go with the m30. I was also considering and m50 swap, or building the m20. I have acces to a cnc shop and the owner told me he is willing to make anything for me, as long as i give him the drawing and metal. So the m20 would be ur typical 2.7l stroker, shaved head, larger injectors, custom intake mani, and the throttle body//afm off the m30, markd tunned and maybe cams if my budget allows it. BUT the m50 is just overall newer/more efficient with nicer tranny options. They are all in the same price range to build/swap. Im leaning towards the m30 mainly because when someone asks, i can say theres a 3.5 liter in this bitch*wave*. But your welcome to try and change my mind if u see a better option.

lol but now back on topic, my main question is, what are some power upgrades for the m30 (im planning on an N/A motor). Is there room to shave the head down?
-what are my cheapest options for engine mounts/brackets?
-are the tranny ratios from the e34 similar or exact the the tranny off an m20? anyone know of a site showing the ratios?

Dyno graphs for M30

Not really much Options for the m30 as you can tell. Naturally aspirated modifications are pretty bland compared to what's available for the 24v's.

Skip the foreplay and boost.

tranny raios are different. M20 does 95 in 2nd, M30 does 110.

Jim, this was my build plan a few years ago, that's the m30b34 e30 swap.
This is one of the strongest old school engines BMW ever built as a production engine, the m30's powered quite a few different models and quite a few generations.

Dont be fooled by the old school engine, its simple, cheap to maintain, has great HP and torque and it will beat any stock m50 e30 hands down.

It weighs just around 50 lbs more than the m20, weight you can save from removing some stuff from your firewall etc.
The third gen m30b34 produces 211 hp and with some simple cheap mods you can increase this quite a bit. With a good exhaust, MD's software and a nice intake, this engine delivers a fair bit of HP and tons of torque. I have programmed a five speed e34 535i here with the same motor and that car is a beast. At 200 kph it feels like its cruising.

The m50 swap looks cool and is 24 valves but, the m30 performance will eat the pretty m50.
I do like m50's dont get me wrong, just stating the facts as far as simplicity, cost and performance is concerned between the m30 and m50.

You would want to go with the 3.25 LSD, first gear with a 3.73 LSD will be a tire shredder.

So it looks like im going to do the m30 swap. Stricker, where can u get motor brackets? or do you know of any structural diagrams of the engine brackets

4.10???? ok you will have no wheels :D

I got mine from Germany, cost me something like $380 -$400 landed here with the Euro conversion. That's the engine mount brackets, not including the IE mounts.

when I got the mounts, I sand blasted, primed and sprayed about 3 coats of high temperature enamel paint on them

Did you check your PM's?

Found a pic which was taken while we were test driving the e34 535i after I programmed it. Look at the kph and RPM, also look at the mileage on the engine.

In an e30 which is so much lighter than the e34, that m30 will make the 30 feel like its on steroids mixed with some speed. Mark D's software makes them light up faster.

Ya for the records, it was on a track :P
