Poll: Car getting repainted next week
My recent acquisition (Red 91 318is) is in great shape for a proclaimed all original body. However, I am getting it Monday, and am wondering what I should do with it.
Should I keep it RED? OR Change it FLAT BLACK? Or Satin black |
From what I remember from the FS ad the paint looked like it was in great shape for its age ( I could be wrong). If the paint is still in good shape I would just do a wash, clay, polish, and wax. I'm sure you'll be very happy with the reults and it would cost considerably less than a repsray.

Yeah, the pic in the add was taken just after he polished it, a year back. The hood has a few noticeable rock chips that turned to cancer over the years, and someone keyd the car on the passenger door. He put some nail polish paint stuff in but still you can see it, it was deep. The 2 front 1/4 have paint peeling around the well and about a foot up from the rockers the rust starts to come through down to the rocker ( just surface, looks like paint was ubber thin, but again, for original paint it's good. And one side of the car is faded pink! (that's an easy fix, but I'd have to keep at it all the time)
Plus, 2 birds, 1 stone. I'm getting rid of my e36 in exchange for the paint. |
in that case id say keep it red unless you are going to do under the hood and all the jams and stuff then I'd have to say satin black.
|
If it's single stage red (like zinnoberrot) you're better keeping it original, since the cost of a repaint won't be any different (maybe even cheaper) than flat or satin, and you won't have to either paint the red bits that aren't exposed, or explain why parts are still red.

lol, this is true. I think i'm going to stick with red! Maybe in a couple years when it's strickly a track car i'll butcher it with some flat black shake bombs!
I was just checking around for e30 on google pics, and stumbled accross this thread. Check out the e30. There are actually a few OK paint jobs (like the flat olive accord wagon) http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3D18%26um%3D1 |

IMO Red is a tough color to change, because it's so noticeable if you miss any part, or door jamb, engine bay, trunk etc. |
You could have done baby-puke yellow but someone has beat you to it.
|
mmmm, puke yellow!
who painted their car that colour? |
didnt you say that this would be a project car next year? might as well wait until you finish your project before painting or do it while the car is ripped apart.
