hey there, everyone, Nick here . Just picked up this 1000HP monster as a project for my son Alexs' first car . In storage since '94 and it has 165,000 M on it ( rebuilt at 120,000). Love the forum ( same setup as GTRC ) and we're looking forward to building this into a rally-look franken-Bimmer ! Hopefully we'll get it on the road by the first meet at Cayuga this spring. We'll take all the advice ( good advice, that is ) that we can use. God Bless old garbage !!

Looks like a decent base. Both you and Alex will have lots of fun with that car. Was it for sale on Bimmerforums? Somehow I've seen this car before...

That car was on Kijijii I think, somewhere out around Ottawa. Looks pretty solid, get yer son busy degreasing that engine bay!

very nice.. get this project going!!

Some areas to check for rust

-lift the carpet on the driver's side and look in the pedal area
-lift the carpet on the passenger side and look at the floor
-bottoms of the doors
-spare tire well (very typical)
-gas tank - remove and clean and maybe POR15
-behind heater if there is evidence of leaking
-frame rails (especially near the front where people have jacked on them - use a board or something instead of jacking right on them)
-rear strut towers, check inside and outside
-around windshields if the seals have gone bad
-the rear subframe/body connection - rubber bushing that bolts up through the body and ends up under the rear seat - if you are doing a complete resto break down the rear subframe and replace the bushings
-front quarters, look inside with a flashlight,especially towards the back where there is a prefect spot for crap to sit
-inside the "cave" where the fuse box sits
-behind the firewall insulation (if you pull the motor)
-drain tubes on sunroof cars
-anywhere the master cylinder has leaked on
-inside front of hood

Judging by the amount of sludge in your engine bay, the bottom of the car may have been "preserved" by moil (= mud + oil).

I ground all the crap off the bottom of my car, and POR 15'd the whole thing. A messy, thankless job, but a lot of piece of mind.

I have some spares and lots of advice, some of it actually useful, if you guys need anything

22 brought it home, which wasn't a steal but was a fair price to pay to own the coolest little bimmer ever made ( that oughta get things goin'!! ) ;-) .

2200?? I saw it posted for 1200....did you get something extra with it??

You saw a different car. this one was near Ingersoll, Ontario, just past Woodstock ( not the one on the side of the highway ) .

Thats the one I was thinking of. Looks a lot different than yours...looks like yours is much nicer...the other one was looked at and considered a loss...good buy.

Congrats though, that interior is what caught my eye too. I was hoping to get him down some, since it's been posted for awhile. Anyways, good luck on your project, keep us updated. BTW what are your plans on getting it up to 1000hp?

It's already at 1000 HP, but I'm going to use the top secret 2000 HP chip out of my Skyline to get it up to top gear status ;-)
