BMW's M3 GT2 racer took to the track for the first time this week with ALMS team Rahal Letterman Racing.
Unbelievably, the part of the new racer BMW is keenest to talk about is the use of the Bavarian marque's EfficientDynamics system – a brand name usually attached to stop/start motors, low rolling resistant tyres and clever alternators rather than 400bhp+ V8 racing cars. For the GT2 racer, "BMW EfficientDynamics makes more engine power by reducing internal friction to increase horsepower and reduce the cooling load." The reduction in cooling needs has allowed the engineers to reduce the number and size of the air intakes, making the car more aerodynamically efficient. They've also fitted a 'corner sensing' power steering system that only switches on when the wheel is turned and an auto-shut off climate control air conditioning system, both of which are designed to reduce parasitic power loss.
Far more interesting than all that is how incredible the car sounds - the video below was shot at a recent ALMS test at Sebring. Make sure it's nice and loud.
looks really quick too! i think theyll put up a damn good fight.

lol I dunno what you guys are hearing, but in that video it doesn't sound that good at all. I'm sure it's just because the Video sound quality was crap though.
