Some pics from the Detroit show
Not too much BMW content, but I thought I'd post some of my pics from the Detroit show. BMW's booth is all hybrids and diesels *sleep*

Detroit has been chaste for the past few years. It's still no Tokyo, but there were some nice surprises:

LOL, thanks very much! Love the Detroit show! My camera is nothing special -- banged up Canon EOS 350D and two old utility lenses (Canon 18-55 and Sigma 28-70).

More coming in a sec...

In and around the show:

Rick Wagoner holds a cheerful scrum with some journos:

GM Styling Chief Ed Welburn:

Hangin' with Mr. Csere:

Jim Press confounds my autofocus:

Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann:

"Hey Smitty, sup?"

Chinese manufacturers BYD and Brilliance erected booths that blocked most of the entrance to the GM area. Signs were necessary:

GM plowed a fleet of vehicles through its first press conference. Blink and you'll miss 'em!

Despite cutbacks in swag and flash, some automakers continued to cater. Here is VW's breakfast offering:

If asked, "Which OEM served pulled pork sandwiches," most people probably wouldn't guess smart.

Not a single Asian on the Brilliance branding:

Noun / adjective / adjective. Brilliance should stick to cars.

Ford is now apparently partnered with the United Federation of Planets:

Breakfast, Mercedes-style:

Lunch, Mercedes-style:

The other Mercedes lunch offering:

Mitsubishi didn't show up, but their local dealers put together six cars and a desk. Somewhat sad:

Even sadder was the fact that their lone display kiosk had a CRT television:

There were several open areas created by manufacturer pullouts:

The fundamental dichotomy:

Japanese guys examining the Volt:

whow, sweet pictures! What camera and lens setup were you using?

Phuviano 01-15-2009 05:09 AM

Nice pictures, but you might want to resize them or post a link where they can view the full size pictures.

Also I want to mention. Food + women + cars, what else more do you need?

Smitty 01-15-2009 09:18 AM

330DTM, I'm using an old 350D and some beater utility lenses (Canon 18-55 and Sigma 28-70).

Phuviano, good point. Hadn't thought about dialup users. Here's a link to my photostream (albums on the right):
