ignition problem? motor is bogging!
ok, so when ever it rains and i start my car, the idle becomes extremely rough and even if i press the gas, it doesnt even try reving higher. i have to hold the gas down and every few seconds the motor will rev, then bog again. i have to wait about 5 minutes until the probblem goes away. This only happens after or during rain fall.
My distributer cap and spark plugs are new. im thinking it has something to do with the spark plug wires? what do you guys think. O ya, the motor is an m20 |
spray the wires with wd-40 next time this happens, then try again. if your problem is gone then you found the issue. (water getting into them)
bavauto is i think the place to go for wires. they're pricey elsewhere |
Is the coil a possibility? I have the same problem, and I have new wires, plugs, cap, rotor. If you figure it out, post up.
|
ya, i just checked the wires, and im almost positive its not them.
|
Try this: At night open the hood, start the engine and use a spray bottle and spray the ignition wires and coil.
If something is worn out/bad, you will see sparking where the problem is. |

!!! found it, its wlong the wire that goes to the coil, its touching the shock mount, is there any temp fixes for this?
|

Yep, electrical tape the shit out of it and use a tie wrap to help keep it away from the shock tower.

what u guys want to ttrade ur e30's for mine?! :P
thanks for the help! |
If you have a hole in your coil wire from the ignition arc you can plug it by using RTV silicone(silicone caulking or hi temp silicone that crappy tire sells). The dielectric properties is quite high and will stop the issue. But I think you know, that it is time to replace your wires. This will help temporarily.....good luck........Bill
