Will this fit E36's?

Spotted this somewhere on the forums. Wondering if it will fit my car: 09/97 328i. If so, PnP?

The shape also looks close enough to a regular E36 M3 wheel. Think the airbag out of my stock E36 M3 wheel will fit in this?

bump, someone must know something

it will fit, it wont work, the wiring on that wheel is meant for a dual stage airbag, your e36 has a single stage airbag.

i'm sure you could somehow bypass the wiring in the steering wheel, since technically its only the surround that's meant for dual stage (car+wiring+airbag = all e36, assuming you use your stock e36 m3 airbag)

however, i wouldn't bother.

Good luck.

Dayum. I guess these were in '99 E36's. Would it still work if had a full wheel with airbag? I understand why my airbag won't fit but is it still possible?

Looks like a 5 series wheel to me.

BYW,, I think e36s do have dual stage airbags. the famous airbag light from the seatbelt buckle is all about this. If you are not belted it fires full blast all the time, if you are belted, then the bag fires depending on the severity of impact.

If this is true can anyone confirm? According to the link above, BMW changed something in '98.

No Idea.
But I had the exact same steering wheel on my '98 323 coupe, straight off the lot.

Just call a dealership for details. It will fit and work.

Since the steering wheel in the picture has cruise control buttons does this mean your '98 did not have the CC stalk below the wiper switch?

Wow, sorry I never even noticed those, lol.

I retract most of my statements then.

Sorry bud.

It looks like the website owner is working on the same project, maybe you can email him for details.

That's a cool link. But the wheels that he's dealing with are not available in NA I assume because it's the first time I've seen them. The pics I attached are not of the wheel that this Brit is swapping. The one in the pic I provided in pretty much exactly like the E36 3-spoke M3 wheel but with buttons on the two plastic pieces at the corners of the airbag. I happen to need a new wheel because the leather in eaten up between 12 and 1'o'clock on the wheel. If I can grab this multifunction wheel and swap my airbag into it, I could hit 2 birds with one stone. SO my main concerns are airbag swappage and fitment as well as if the buttons will work via PnP or would I need any extra harness(s). If any 36ers have this wheel, speak up!
