2001 BMW X5 3.0....thoughts?

Hey whats going on guys?:)

my parents are thinking of buying a bimmer *keeping fingers crossed*

but they wanna know which SUV out of these three is the best one(reliable and loaded)

1) 2001 BMW X5 3.0 V6
2) 2003 Infinti Qx4 3.5 V6
3) 2001-2002 Lexus RX 300

so what do you guys know about the X5.

any known problems that the ride has.

any recalls?

anything i should check out on it?

the kms on the bimmer should hopefully be anywhere from 45 000km all the way up to 70 000km

now the QX4 would be a cheaper choice as we could get a newer version for the same price as an older bimmer and lexus.

so let me know what yo guys think!
*smoke*

I'd pick X5 3.0 since thats the only one i've been in out of those.
"It never wants to go slow"-my mom
i havent heard of any problems with the X5 before...only that it's one of the safest cars tested in the USA

Understated 01-08-2004 11:11 PM

^^LOL!...thats a nice change from our 02' civic 4door which NEVER WANTS TO GO FAST  we have to kick the thing to top off 100km/h :D

so your mom has an x5 3.0??..what year?

///Milk 01-08-2004 11:14 PM

no my mom doesnt have one
she test drove it when we went to the BMW dealership last month
it was an '03 or '04 X5 3.0 she test drove
i loved it...really fast compared to our minivan :D

Understated 01-08-2004 11:16 PM

LOL...cool

betmen 01-08-2004 11:17 PM

you can go for the X5 or the Toureg (VW SUV), X5 and the Toureg, two fo the best SUV's around now

both got grat safety, great features, great quality, great everything
pick one of those two IMO

///Milk 01-08-2004 11:18 PM

o ya...the X3 3.0
its about as fast as the X5 3.0
have ur parents test drive it at a BMW dealership near you :D

FastM3 01-08-2004 11:19 PM

I been in the Lexus and drive the X5 at work all the time...I would pick the X5 over the Lexus anyday!

As for the QX4, they look too much like Pathfinders, well they are really, and Pathfinders aren't better then X5's, therefore, I would take the X5 over all of them. They are very smooth cars, they feel strong and are pretty reliable from what I hear.

Understated 01-09-2004 12:00 AM

thanks for the replies. The x5 leads the polls

Hardcore328is 01-09-2004 12:00 AM

X5 3.0 all the way..

V-Thang 01-09-2004 12:02 AM

Get the X5 Sport Package!! I believe its the 4.8 or 4.4i liter?

WASABI 01-09-2004 12:04 AM

How about the FX35 ? I think the Murano is nicer than the RX300.

Understated 01-09-2004 12:05 AM

V-thang: we want a V6 because of the gas prices.

Wasabi: i would love the FX35 but it's seriously expensive and rare to find used :(

SickFinga 01-09-2004 12:06 AM

Lexus is just ugly. I hate that car.
I wouldnt bother with Infiniti Qx4, id just get Pathfinder and save some cash. Top of the line Pathfinder is the same as Infinity and cost couple of grand less.

BMW X5, well it is BMW. Looks nice, but 3.0l sounds sloooow.

betmen, best SUVs right now are Tourag and FX45.(not x5) But both out of Echo's budget

they only have 3.0, 4.4, and 4.6 liters for X5s
the 4.8 liter hasnt officially been released yet
the 4.4i[S] would be way to much on his budget

WASABI 01-09-2004 12:11 AM

Well out of those choices, X5, but for me, I'd want the V8. How much are used 4.4L ? I saw an Estoril X5 the other day, 4.6L I think, on dixie with the OEM 5 spokes 20"s chromed ... WOW !

Understated 01-09-2004 12:44 AM

it's not the price of the V8 Bimmers thats the problem...it's the fact that the gas consumption would be a lot :P

Understated 01-09-2004 02:10 AM

i'm starting to have some second thoughts on the BMW...because it is assembled in the USA. I thought it would be Germany

is the BMW still as reliable as it would be if it was imported from Europe?

SickFinga 01-09-2004 02:22 AM

all X and Z bmws are assambled in USA

except z8

Understated 01-09-2004 02:25 AM

^^thanks for clearing that up for me :) ....does the reliability change in any way because of the differing plants?

btw thanks for moving the thread mods :)

tlaselva 01-09-2004 02:27 AM

The only two I would consider is the X5 and the Infinity.

The Lexus drives like a tall Camary. Isolates you so much from the drive feel that I hate, and handles like solid excrement.

The Infinity basically a Pathfinder with some add on cosmetics, which I currently own a '01 SE. Got 60K kms, and haven’t had even a bulb go on it yet.
Because Nissan's been making them for a long time, they've had plenty of time to work out all the bugs. The engine has great torque, but is a gas-guzzler.
Likely one of the most reliable SUV's out there.

Now the X5 is my top choice of ALL SUV's.
Even the Mercedes ML's can't hold a candle to a X5.
Extensively test-drove both, and it wasn't even close IMO.
Best handling/built SUV I've driven..*th-up*

Understated 01-09-2004 02:33 AM

^^^thats awesome hearing it from some1 who actual owns the x5 :)

i will definately get my parents to test drive the x5 and the qx4.

we were thinkin about the pathfinder at first, but the way we see it is you pay a couple grand more for a better dealer :D

i've heard infiniti dealers are 10000000000000x more friendly than your normal nissan dealer, as well as more consumer-friendly.

so why not when the difference in price isn't that huge :)

SebSter 01-09-2004 02:50 AM

most likely thats the answer *th-up*

Go for the X5, you wont be disappointed..plus, would u rather have the keys to a nissan...or a BMW? BMW = money cash hoes hahahaha

Understated 01-09-2004 03:26 AM

^^^^actually i doubt i would be able to drive it without rolling over a few people :D

i only have my G1 and i'm not exactly an 'experienced driver'

:D

i get my g2 in july.

so i better get practicin.
i hear SUVs are harder to drive because you have a messed up view or something

i will STILL take whatever SUV we get for a spin once i get my G2....hell i might even practice with it :D ;)

I'd take a Forester Turbo over any other SUV. It drops the 1/4 in 14 flat, stock. With less than $1500 you can be deep into the 13's. *wiggle*

BladeRunner 01-09-2004 03:35 PM

The X3, don't like it reminds me of a Jeep Grand Cherooke and it doesn't look like it might even have real off roading or towing capabilities.

The Infinity, how dare anyone take that nice looking monter offroading or even towing. Anyway with such big large rims I would imagine traction would suck.

Give me an X5, Hummer H1 or Monter truck anyday.

ROCKETMAN 01-09-2004 10:05 PM

Why don't you take a look at the Infiniti FX, instead if the qx4?

suicide 01-09-2004 10:12 PM

go with the X5 or if you want go with the Infinity FX35 or 45 my mom has the 35 and it is amazing

Psh...bmw will never build a range rover, but that's way outta budget.

ROCKETMAN 01-10-2004 01:55 AM

You have many good choices in this category. They are:
Acura MDX
BMW X5
Cadillac XLR
Infiniti FX
Lexus RX
Lincoln Aviator
Mercedes-Benz M-class
Volkswagen Tourag
Volvo XC90

the 00' range is in my price range:cool:

it's the restyled ones(sweeet) that are over 80 grand:huh?:

Understated 01-10-2004 03:54 AM

I was also thinking the MDX..but wasn't sure..

Cadillac XLR-----haven't seen this or know the price
Infiniti FX---have yet to see ONE used fx35
Lexus RX---in consideration
Lincoln Aviator--i don't like ford products no offense
Mercedes-Benz M-class--i've heard pure horror stories when it comes to the M class
Volkswagen Toureg--too expensive :)
Volvo XC90

Understated 01-10-2004 03:55 AM

^^x2

and dude the XLR is a sportscar according to google image search :huh?:

pretty sweet one nontheless :D

edshmeen 01-10-2004 04:04 AM

i can only speak from experince in a 4.4 x5 with sports kit, but they are nearly exactly the same as the 3.0lt (bar the obvious  ) and i was and still am amzed how it drives for a 4x4...trully amazing for a 2.5 ton vehicle.
BUT, i must say i would highly recomend the forrester xt *love* over the 3.0lt

Manimillion 01-10-2004 04:18 AM

I donno if anyone mentioned this to you or not... But do you KNOW what a V6 is, and what an INLINE 6 is?

X5 3.0's are INLINE 6 not V6...

Understated 01-10-2004 07:56 PM

*bump*

DAM 01-10-2004 08:27 PM

I think there is a bit of a bias on this site, but i am along with the rest of you, X5 for sure.
