Hit hit 51 kph during last week's official autumn cruise (with a cop right behind me)*th-up* Not only could he have given me a ticket for speeding (1 kph over) he could have stopped me for blocking traffic. He got caught behind me while I has blocking lol*th-up*

Guess he was ok after all

I've hit the governer at 206km/h in both my car and my mom's 525i. My speedo almost says 220 though, but I know as a fact that the speedo is limited to 206, plus a 7% speedo error sounds about right.

My car takes just over 30 seconds to hit it, my mom's car takes a minute.

I really want a GPS.....

yea i hate that speedo error, whatever, im still convinced my car hits 213, i saw it wit my own eyes!!!! lol

I am surprised...my speedo seems right on. I hit the governor at 205 km/h

..a little off topic but...

When I picked up my car I asked the sales person if I should keep it under a certain speed for the first couple of months.

Answer: "All BMW engines are broken in at the factory prior to installation, but its a good idea to keep it under 170 for a few days". Don't know if this is 100% true but I got a laugh out of it. I drove it home at a cautious 168.

220 km / near 8000rpm limited by my 3.91 diff.. i dont want to go higher lol coz my engine will blow..

762002 11-15-2003 03:50 AM

Highest I went with my 318ti is 200km/h, the engine shuts down after that:(. For the ppl who live near me, did Buckingham Gatineau in like 5 minutes lol, 200 all the way on the highway :p pretty cool.

***EDIT***
Spelling mistake

KIRASIR 11-15-2003 05:08 AM

I call BS on this one. All 318tis in NA are limited to 116 miles per hour from the factory. So theoretically the fastest you could've gone is ~186km/h only.

Well I dunno, my speedo was showing 197-200km/h.

What's your tire size?

I pulled 150 MPH hour in my 98M3. Had this dude who was talkin s**t with me. Says his weak ass chevy camaro did 200. I was like oh yeah c'mon biatch!!!! Dude had like 60 series tires so when he tried to whip corners the body roll was ridiculous! Anyhow took him down a back country road where the spped limit is 45 MPH and decided to triple it!!! Dude then admitted he had never been 200MPH in his Camaro out of excitement......which I already knew just had to work it out of him.*no-no*

I'm gonna call BS on this one as well.

NO WAY you got a 2.8L M52 motor to spin to 8000 RPM. The stock 2.8L motor runs out of breath about 6200 RPM; I highly doubt you can get another 1800 RPM out of it.

You *might* get to 7,000 RPM with that motor, but not beyond it.

Just how did you know you're running 8,000 RPM with that car?

GPS really isn't that accurate for peak speed, but it's quite good at measuring the average speed.

If you're willing to sit on the speed limiter for awhile, then a GPS can give you an idea of your speed in relation to your speedometer.

However, basic inaccuracies in a GPS unit prevent it from accurately measuring the top speed.

I was doing some math here, if you're on the stock 225/50/16 tires, have a 3.91 diff, and are reading 220km/h off the stock speedometer, then you're more then likely doing like 205km/h or so (7% error on the stock speedo, when I govern at 206km/h my speedo almost reads 220kmh), then you should be at like 6750rpm @ the true 205km/h, and 7250rpm @ 220km/h.

I'm with Pat on this one, to just get to 7400rpm you need some decent valvetrain strengthening (springs.....etc).

Bone stock 94 325iS with 225/40ZR17 (front) and 245/35/ZR17 (rear) i hit 210 km/hn on the speedo then the guv. kicked in....

does that sound about right.....

BTW..this was done on QEW @ about 2 am with a friend who was driving ahead and i had to pull over to take a piss..then he called me and said theres no cars up untill a certain cutoff.....thats the only way I'll ever go that fast again.....even with no traffic or cops I was still shiting bricks...couldn't stop thinking of what would happen if a tire blew....mind you..i must say the car was vary stable at that speed and it felt like as if i could go faster if the guv. wasn't there....BMW's are amazing!!
