Thoughts on the 3rd Gen RX-7 TwinTurbo...
My father and I have both always admired a few jap cars like the supra tt, rx-7 tt, 300zx tt, (see a pattern? =), and mitsu eclipse gsx awd.

What i want to know is how good of a car is the 3rd gen rx-7 tt? Reason being is my father and i might want to split on one. We've looked at a few and they're not that expensive to buy anymore (about $20,000 more or less).

Do they run into a lot of problems, or need alot of work all the time?
What are the usual things to go wrong with them.

If driven hard a lot, and they usually are, prepare to rebuilt the engine every 30-40k.

They are sweet cars but very unreliable. Twin Turbo rotary engine is alot of fun but they blow all the time

Sweet cars but also have heard that if the rotory engine goes or need repairs it can get BLOODY expensive! :(

The design of the rotary engine makes it dificult to seal in the combustion chamber.

I now some with the Newer RX-7 who had to change the motor after 96,000 KM.

Great looking car though!!!

Rotary engines are costly to maintain but change the looks a bit of the car and you can get some REALLY awesome sporty appearance. Check this one out, it is beautiful

But I would only purchase an rx7 as a summer car or a weekend car and if i had the money to immediately rebuild the whole engine.

What a bunch of BS
"The design of the rotary makes it difficult to seal in the combustion chamber"
WTF??? Care to elaborate on that one?

Like ANY car, if it has been maintained, it will work just fine thanks. Ever seen one of these on a track? They are scary fast, super light, and stop on a dime.

The Mitsubishi and the Nissan are complete lard asses next to an RX-7, and they feel like it. The Supra is in a different league, both performance-wise and price-wise.

Find an RX-7 that has been maintained and you have found a serious car that would stomp all over 90% of people you'd encounter on the road or the track. ANY Turbo car that has been abused will be expensive to maintain or rebuild, whether it is rotary- or piston-engined.
