210 on the M3 never again!
195 on my old 323i scarry as shit on winter tires

M50E30 10-11-2003 04:52 AM

Hit 220km/h tonight pretty easy...probably could have squeezed another 5 to 10km/h out of it. I top out alot sooner since I have a 3.91 LSD out of an E30 325ix.

I think I might go with a shorter ratio now. Any one with a 4.11 LSD want to trade?

I guess i'm just chicken shit lol plus I depend on my car a lot, i don't use the RT/Subway/Bus anymore which is one of the most stupidest thing i did :(. Also, isn't anything over 180 or something gets your license suspended or you can be jailed for reckless driving?

Isn't 150? I thought 50 over the limit is reckless driving... maybe 60

BimmerMan 10-12-2003 02:36 AM

With my m20 I hit 225 km/h, with the m50 it max's out at 205 km/h ); ....I can do 200 in 4th, and 205 in 5th.

What gear ratio do you have?

BimmerMan 10-12-2003 02:31 PM

I have the stock 1987 325is tranny and diff.

98323IS 10-12-2003 08:22 PM

I have hit a speedo indicated 250KM/H (i.e. burried the needle). My tire size is correct (225-45-17). I have a 3:15 rear diff, dinan stage I and an intake.

Autotechnica 10-12-2003 08:36 PM

Well not perfect.

205/60/15 (stock) to 215/45/17 is correct (0.3%)
205/60/15 (stock) to 225/45/17 is (1.2%)

250 would be 247 but at that speed it's not accurate anyways. If you have a GPS it would be best to use that. I've clocked my friends teg at 240km/h accurately and mine at 192km/h just last week (not top speed, ran out of highway)

DavidM5 10-14-2003 06:50 AM

Yes, a GPS will track your speed more acurately than the speedo.
BMWs are notorious for having optimistic speedos.
I've had the speedo indicate 270+km/h on my M5 at the cutoff and my Streetpilot 3 GPS logged a max speed of 262km/h.

Miguel 10-14-2003 12:49 PM

200Kms/hr in my 525i rollin' on the 18's the day I got my exhaust put on. I could have pushed further but I am currently one ticket away from an "interview" according to the MTO.
I was really expecting some higher numbers from some of you people.

BiBimBap 10-17-2003 03:38 AM

Sorry for the delay - 265km/h was the speed - but not in my bimma! Just wanted to see the reactions..

Yamaha R6....heh heh

Skunk#1 10-21-2003 06:46 PM

147mph @ 5600?rpms in my 1987 325is. it could have buried the rpms but i was comming up to traffic. also have gone 120 miles in less than one hour going to port aransas, tx. the roads out there are straight, wide, and flat; lets not forget about hardly any pigs. the cars running 15s and stock 4.11 rear end. that was a rush 140mph for around 45mins, i have never done that in any other car before. i used to have a civic si, that made it from austin, tx to san antonio in aroud 23mins, running 135mph the whole way racing a nissan maxima. both cars had four people in them and we were smogin out. but on the real what is so fun about topping a car out, i'd rather top a car out in the turns. there is nothing like holding a line at just enough speed where the car wants to just start sqirming out of control just to have to turn the other way.

SpikedLemon 10-22-2003 01:23 AM

The Honda pulls past 270km/h...

The Chevy hits the govn'r at 172km/h (I hate you GM).

Bigbore 10-24-2003 12:33 AM

ive got a short ratio tranny so i top out at 220, but it`s getting there that matters. 100-220 takes about 16-18seconds :D

Lethal ///M3 10-28-2003 12:55 AM

148 MPH in my 95 M3. Could have maybe squeezed 5 or so more out of here but it wasn't worth it. Did it on 97C outside Kelowna, this new 330Ci and I travelled 97 km's in just under 25 min.

blacknblue-e30 10-29-2003 05:28 AM

213 in the old 4 banger 318 :)
my cars such a sleeper ;) and when i say sleeper i mean for the time my car takes to get from 190 210 its like waking up in the morning and getting out of bed.........takes foreverrrrrrrrrrr

Gizmo 10-29-2003 10:30 PM

Highest speed in my E36 316i (M40 engine) was 225km/h, the rev limiter was pushed up to 7000rpm, in 5th I took it off the clock (clock goes to 220km) This was the help of my Eaton supercharger!

Fastest I driven in any car was my dad's E34 M5 with a chip. I took her to 260km/h, couldn't go faster due to the governor!

SpudBoy 10-29-2003 10:52 PM

Hit hit 51 kph during last week's official autumn cruise (with a cop right behind me)*th-up* Not only could he have given me a ticket for speeding (1 kph over) he could have stopped me for blocking traffic. He got caught behind me while I has blocking lol*th-up*

Guess he was ok after all

thinair 10-29-2003 11:43 PM

I've hit the governer at 206km/h in both my car and my mom's 525i. My speedo almost says 220 though, but I know as a fact that the speedo is limited to 206, plus a 7% speedo error sounds about right.

My car takes just over 30 seconds to hit it, my mom's car takes a minute.

I really want a GPS.....

blacknblue-e30 10-30-2003 06:54 AM

yea i hate that speedo error, whatever, im still convinced my car hits 213, i saw it wit my own eyes!!!! lol

BimmerMan 10-31-2003 01:40 AM

I am surprised...my speedo seems right on. I hit the governor at 205 km/h

steelraven 10-31-2003 04:14 AM

..a little off topic but...

When I picked up my car I asked the sales person if I should keep it under a certain speed for the first couple of months.

Answer: "All BMW engines are broken in at the factory prior to installation, but its a good idea to keep it under 170 for a few days". Don't know if this is 100% true but I got a laugh out of it. I drove it home at a cautious 168.

Peter1998 11-01-2003 05:41 AM

220 km / near 8000rpm limited by my 3.91 diff.. i dont want to go higher lol coz my engine will blow..

762002 11-15-2003 03:50 AM

Highest I went with my 318ti is 200km/h, the engine shuts down after that:(. For the ppl who live near me, did Buckingham Gatineau in like 5 minutes lol, 200 all the way on the highway :p pretty cool.

***EDIT***
Spelling mistake

KIRASIR 11-15-2003 05:08 AM

I call BS on this one. All 318tis in NA are limited to 116 miles per hour from the factory. So theoretically the fastest you could've gone is ~186km/h only.

Well I dunno, my speedo was showing 197-200km/h.

What's your tire size?

I pulled 150 MPH hour in my 98M3. Had this dude who was talkin s**t with me. Says his weak ass chevy camaro did 200. I was like oh yeah c'mon biatch!!!! Dude had like 60 series tires so when he tried to whip corners the body roll was ridiculous! Anyhow took him down a back country road where the spped limit is 45 MPH and decided to triple it!!! Dude then admitted he had never been 200MPH in his Camaro out of excitement......which I already knew just had to work it out of him.*no-no*

I'm gonna call BS on this one as well.

NO WAY you got a 2.8L M52 motor to spin to 8000 RPM. The stock 2.8L motor runs out of breath about 6200 RPM; I highly doubt you can get another 1800 RPM out of it.

You *might* get to 7,000 RPM with that motor, but not beyond it.

Just how did you know you're running 8,000 RPM with that car?

I really want a GPS.....

GPS really isn't that accurate for peak speed, but it's quite good at measuring the average speed.

If you're willing to sit on the speed limiter for awhile, then a GPS can give you an idea of your speed in relation to your speedometer.

However, basic inaccuracies in a GPS unit prevent it from accurately measuring the top speed.

I was doing some math here, if you're on the stock 225/50/16 tires, have a 3.91 diff, and are reading 220km/h off the stock speedometer, then you're more then likely doing like 205km/h or so (7% error on the stock speedo, when I govern at 206km/h my speedo almost reads 220kmh), then you should be at like 6750rpm @ the true 205km/h, and 7250rpm @ 220km/h.

I'm with Pat on this one, to just get to 7400rpm you need some decent valvetrain strengthening (springs.....etc).

Bone stock 94 325iS with 225/40ZR17 (front) and 245/35/ZR17 (rear) i hit 210 km/hn on the speedo then the guv. kicked in....

does that sound about right.....

BTW..this was done on QEW @ about 2 am with a friend who was driving ahead and i had to pull over to take a piss..then he called me and said theres no cars up untill a certain cutoff.....thats the only way I'll ever go that fast again.....even with no traffic or cops I was still shiting bricks...couldn't stop thinking of what would happen if a tire blew....mind you..i must say the car was vary stable at that speed and it felt like as if i could go faster if the guv. wasn't there....BMW's are amazing!!

E30 325i Mark D chip, apex springs, iS lip...otherwise stock, 5 spd...235km.

Autotechnica 12-04-2003 02:53 AM

When I tested my car w/ my heavy 17" M3 wheels my car would barely pass 180km/h.

When I switched back to my 15" stock wheels, I hit 200+km/h@5700RPM, the car wouldn't go any faster even with my Dinan chip, must have reached it's max drag coefficient. It felt as if I had no control over the car. However, I'm not too concered. I don't think on or off the track I would ever need to hit that speed anyways. The front of the car didn't seem to be touching the ground at all, so I have no clue how accurate it was.

Beleive it or not, my truck was still pulling at 150 mph. I had 1000 rpm to go in last gear, which is alot considering I get into last gear @ 120 mph. It pulls slowly from about 140 onward, and should top out (aerodynamically limited) to about 155mph. The gearing on my truck is good to about 165mph.

nvr2much 12-08-2003 09:30 PM

bounced mine off the spped limiter I think its 220 or 230 i can't remember
