1989 Porsche 944 turbo S Rare Excellent Condition

The Porsche 944 Turbo S represents what most authorities consider to be the highest performance version of the highly successful 944 product line. The Turbo S was introduced in 1988 as a limited production run, fitted in the same mannter as the "Turbo Cup" race car. In the following year (1989), the 944 Turbo maintained all of the performance characteristics of the 1988 Turbo S, but dropped the "S" designation. 1989 was to be the last year that Porsche imported the 944 Turbo into North America in any significant numbers.
Initially, the Turbo S was only available in a "Silver Rose Limited Edition" form. This characterization followed from their paint scheme. In addition to the performance options and Silver Rose paint, these vehiles were trimmed with a burgandy-plaid ("studio") interior. The various features and specifications of the Turbo S are found on the Vehicle Data page.
Manufacturing statistics are found on the Production data page. Initially, Porsche intended to sell 1000 of the "Silver Rose" Turbo S. However, plans changed and in the end, well over 1000 cars were made, in a variety of colors and options.

Very nice, more pics would help, especially the interior.

I love the rear arches on the turbo. So sexy!

How reliable are 944's ? what maintenance do they need ? I hear different opinions on these cars.

They only produced less than 500 in north america
not too much maintenance you need just regular oil change

As long as they have been maintained, they are very reliable.

The problem with a lot of 944s (read 944 non-turbos) is that they decreased in value to a point that a couple of fixes could cost you close to what the car is worth, so many were neglected. But that means that lots of parts are available, so they can be pretty economical cars if you can do some of the maintenance yourself.

timing belts and clutches are a pain and expensive (clutches especially). If a timing belt breaks the engine becomes an anchor.

However if maintained they are a rocket propelled go-kart. 50/50 weight distribution, torque tube and transaxle setup.

The turbo and turbo S have essentially racing suspensions, great brakes and go like stink. Vastly undervalued IMO

GL with the sale

They did it no justice in last years Canada's Worst Driver series where a 944 was beaten up by wary drivers.

My mechanic ( a german car guy ie porsche, audi, vw, bmw, merc, ) owns over 6 of these, he races one, has another as a daily driver and has 4-6 chassis in mint shape ready to go at any time in case one of his customers rights one off at the track. My mechanics' personal car has over 650 reliable hp at any given time and is the fastest street legal car I've ever seen go around mosport. I'd say it's reliable and many mods available from what i've seen.
