2002 325ci questions!
Hey Guys,
looking at getting into a E46 coupe with a 2.5L. I am really interested in this car but could use some more input on the car. What are known to go on these? I see gaskets can be problems and same with the power steering hoses. Anything to look out for? I am looking at one with a M package, 150k for $8200. Looking for some advice!

Well I paid 7000$ for my 2000 328ci and it needed a lot of money just to get it on the road, be pateint and I'd suggest buying one for closer to 10,000 and off someone on here that way you know the car has been loved and well taken care of. But this guy might actually be selling a good car. But for that price I'd be curious

this price is safetied and e tested. so basically road ready. obviously this doesn't mean it has been taken care of perfectly but I would plan on getting it inspected by a mechanic. I am just curious of what i should potentially be asking. outside of power steering hoses and gaskets, what commonly goes on the e46?

Thermostat, camshaft positioning sensors, and a few other things of I remember correctly

Subframe shouldn't be an issue, but check the cooling system, make sure it doesn't overheat and does blow warm air at idle, look at the condition of the suspension components, etc.

I have a 2002 325ci. The only problems I've had are window trim coming off due to bad BMW glue (easy DIY fix), water pump failure (replace preventatively), intake tube leak (easy DIY fix).
My subframe is in good shape. Oh yea, my sunroof is jammed and won't open. It's $1.5K to replace but I'm hoping I can fix it.

I have a 2006 325ci with 160K on it and it runs AMAZING, the only problem I have had with it is the thermostat(159K), which I changed right away after getting the CEL. I put under drive pulleys on at about 80K, So I have had no problems with the engine accessories, oh and I replaced the Valve cover gasket at 110k because when I changed the engine coils I noticed oil on them...other than that only preventative stuff really, RTAB's, rear shock tower mounts (just in case) and oil changes EVERY 5000 KM's!!!!! Plus it's great on gas...not that fast though lol

Oh yea... that reminds me. I replaced my thermostat last year as well. It was such a small DIY job I forgot about it. I also replaced the front control arm bushings with polyurethane ones. The old ones were still in good shape at 150K (mostly highway).
It's a good idea to flush all of your fluids periodically as well. That's 2-3 years depending on usage. That includes differential, transmission, powersteering, coolant, and brake fluid.
