Q about early e36 DRL's

Hey guys!

since the early e36's have the low beams hard wired in for DRL's; does anyone actually know how?

I'm wondering if I got a headlight switch from the states; if that would get rid of the DRL? Or is the wiring rigged someplace else?

I know that there is a relay you can get from the dealership; but just looking for other alternatives. *th-up*

the relay you're talking about is the US highbeam relay. Just swapping it out won't get rid of the DRLs on the early version.

any idea of what will?

Many many threads about this. You actually need to redo wiring, and Jay has said many times that "Safe and Sound Installations" will do it. When I called them they said around $90.

will just swapping the relay out work on 96+ models?

It worked on my 98 323is... I'd assume it would work fine. The nice bonus is you can sell the CDN DRL relay to an american for more than you'd pay for the American relay. The DRL is popular in the US as they din't receive them stock... I think I sold mine for $75 US shipped on BF.c
