gas/fuel gauge

I have a problem with my fuel guage and i can't figure out what it could be. I have tryed 3 different sending units and the same problem. The fuel gauge is always pointing to full and never decreases from the full spot. If its not the sending unit what else could it be? maybe the gauge it self isn't working properly? I want to get this fixed soon because its a hassel to always guess when the car needs gas. When the gas is really low the warning light does come on though. Anyways any suggestions would be great. for the record all the other gauges work. thanks guys

Bad earth on the gauge. Pull cluster, remove nut and washer holding the gas gauge, (this serves as the earth connection) clean then up and reassemble.

I have the same problem and tryed the sending unit and the ground on the guage and both did nothing. Someone told me that it is a bad board on the cluster. You might want to pm Eurostyle he might be able to help you. Hope that helps.

My gas guage has been flaky for a while now, I find it just as easy to go by KM's. I just reset my trip meter every time I fill up.:)

We had Terry's cluster out a few months back and tried everything to fix that.. .even tried swapping my cluster in.. his cluster is fine, it has to be something from the sending unit.

Likely the wiring if you know both ends work. Have fun electrical gremlins suck.

What year e30 is it? The later models have 2 sending units, one for the gauge, one for the light.

At least on the m20 models there is.

One sending unit is attached to the fuel pump as in the earlier models, the other one is on the other side of the fuel tank. If you remove the seat to access the fuel pump there is another access panel on the other side.

I can't remember which one controls the light and which one is the gauge.
