E34 Need help opening hood from outside!

Battery has died and I'm locked out of my car.
The battery is located in the front (i know this as fact).

How do I open the hood to recharge/replace my battery?

Thanks in advance...

How are you locked out of your car?

To unlock the passenger or driver door, turn the key past the normal unlock position while raising the door handle. Release handle and lift again to open the door.

If your car is an M50 E34, then the battery should be under the rear seat, no?

There are some a very small percentage of early m50 525i's with the battery under the hood.

The hood release runs along the driver side of the car close to the fender lining. You'd have to stick a screw driver in to get at it. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to get at it without breaking something.

You can always try forcing your way into the car with something thin yet sturdy enough to pry open the top rear corner of your driver side door, it will flex enough to allow you to stick something once again long and sturdy enough to pull the door lock pin up.

This is all assuming that you can't get the emergency unlock procedure to work on your passenger door and your car has the battery isn't under the rear seat.

In a pinch, run power (speaker wire would work) from the "boost" vehicle to your in-trunk light. That'll give you enough juice to unlock the doors.

Car has been in storage for awhile and the battery died.
I tried using the emergency unlock procedure on the passenger handle. No effect.

Nathan, I've never heard of your method before. I can't access my trunk because it's locked.

I guess Ill give CAA a call (slim-jim).

Thanks guys!

I'm assuming you have the key :), but the trunk should unlock without battery power.

You can unlock the trunk or driver side door without the battery, just using the key.

Trunk is locked and driver side door locked.

Did you get in yet?

If not then you will need a flashlight and a flat head screwdriver about 6 inches long (not too thick about 6mm).

Get a flashlight and peer into the crack of the hood left side, push in the screw driver (about 5'' from the chrome edge of the grille) turn 90 degrees and move screwdriver to the passenger side (your left).

Thanks Mark!

I charged up the battery and the doors open now!
