Tell me about 98-01 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS

I'm possibly looking to buy one of these for winter season, while my Crx sleeps.

Anyways, how are these cars ? Decent gas mileage ? Reliable ?
I want the RS for the 4WD.
Are they hard to find in good shape these days ?

thanks

Are the outback/legacy/forester reliable as well?

bmwm5lover 05-13-2008 12:34 PM

I breifly considered them before I started looking at M5's. Not bad, they have dropped in price, and rust seems to be the main problem, along with headgasket failures.

They are just as good if not better.

From what I have seen, only the older models (pre 2000) legacy/outback have had headgasket issues, and this is with atleast 200k's on the clock.

Im not a subaru expert by any means, im basing my judgements on the cars that pass through my shop.

I suggest to anyone looking into buy a vehicle, to do extensive research and not just take anyones word for it.

^I almost bought a legacy GT...I heard the same thing about head gasket issues and rust.. Decided to go with Audi A4 instead.
I don't know for sure but seems to me Subaru packed/copied things from many german manufacturers and put it into one car.

Boxer engine = Porsche
AWD = Audi
Handling/braking = Bmw

I can tell you one thing forsure, Subaru is way more reliable than Audi.

^ I would have to disagree with that well at least with the one I have anyways. it's a 96 I've had since 98 it had 65k on it when I bought it I have it well maintained Knock on wood no problems yet.. I agree they are many problem with the 1.8T but not so much with the 2.8Q which is what I have.

i wanted to get one of those too. They are soooo DOPE rides

Aren't WRX STi coming next year considering the 15year rule and WRX STi were sold in 1994.?

Soldo 05-13-2008 07:27 PM

Ha, i've been considering/looking at these too lately. I've always loved them and almost bought a black 2.5rs before i picked up my 328.

Apperently the Impreza's have the same headgasket issue that the Legacy's have in 2000 i think.

Also, the Impreza's (Subaru's) are much better cars than Audi's in terms of handling and AWD systems, but their two different classes of cars!

Can anyone WITH one of these cars comment on the Fuel consumption? I want something a little better than my car!
