This one is mine and everyone wants to race???? he he.... i don't know why... Jk,, it was so much better before I blew up my freakn tranny,,, speaking of which do any of you guys recomend a shop that has any trannys kicking around or install a M3 engine & tranny????? I wanted to maybe try and get more info about droping in a 4.4L and a 6 spd but they are hard to find and nobody seems to want to try to do it.... those are my only two choices...

any help thanks!!!!!

I would suggest that you don't do the 4.4L.

Why?
#1- Lots of $$$
#2- Weight (unless you like to go straight)
#3- LOTS OF $$$

Talk to MOTRONIX (Dave) on this site. He is really cool to talk to and he has done a lot of engine swaps. BTW what do you drive? LOL if you already have a 5'er then do the 4.4L.

The 4.4L V-8 won't go into the E36 chassis anytime soon.

Yeah, it *might* be possible, but it would cost more than it would ever possibly be worth.

The 4.4L V-8 actually fits into the E30 chassis better than the E36.

Steering column needs to be adjusted, etc, etc etc. Without factory support, it's too difficult. Too many new parts need to be developed.

Thanks for the welcome,I'm glad I finally found a Canadian BM Forum, gee I thought that they never exsited. Wheww thank god one does!!! Hey how do you guys get the pictures at the bottom of your posts all the time??? I'm jelous... he he he

I drive a 92 325i E36 Four Door, Alpine White. It was supoz to be my project car but it keeps on breaking down before I get to do what I want to do to it. (murphys law)

My original plan was to drop the ///M3 engine and tranny, this summer. (hense the plate,, wan to keep her a sleeper) but I seen in a Performance BMW (uk mag) that a guy had shoehorned a 4.4 into the E36 and it kind of got things turning, do any of you guys know about "TPS" they got recomened to do the install by a guy at Darknights last year...

I will post some more pictures of it once I figure out how to shrink the size of my pictures in CPP 10 so that they are not the full screen.

I remember in one of the early Bimmer magazines, they featured a e36 coupe that had a supercharged 4.4 in it, I believe that it was done by a company called H & H or something like that. The interesting thing is that the v12 is easier to fit in than the v8 bacause although it is longer, it is narrower and thus requires less custom fabrication (although it would still take a hell of alot of work and would be really noseheavy).

M62 engine, 140 kg's

Not much of a difference. 4 kg's, 8 lbs.


Weight's not a problem, I think $$$ is the problem.. hehe.. I'd love to drop a 4.4 in my car, its actually 4 lbs lighter than mine.. and the late 540 has an M62 in it.

V8 in an E36 is gonna be really expensive! Biggest problem is a complete custom oil pan/sump. Alpina, Hartge, H&H and some other large tuners in Germany have done this with huge budgets. I know people that have tryed it here in N.A. and abandoned the project because of cost and certain difficulties.

I hear there's a really good shop that'll do anything if you have the money... it's called RAVEN Performance. The owner is John, give him a call and tell us all what he charges for that (if he can do it)... (905) 477-1800
