Few weeks ago I changed mine to bosch

http://www.boschautoparts.com/NR/rdonlyres/B79F3786-DFBD-4292-AF36-16EE63BEE5F1/0/Icon540.jpg

I think this doesn't work well on my car because I hear some vibration between wiper and windshield.

Should I change back to original style wiper blades?

Also I don't know where is my wiper wind deflector... do I need this??

The recent wiper comes with wind deflector but old style wiper doens't.

Wind deflector comes with wipers, driver's side only.

I hate the icons. They are the worst wiper ever. Same with those "reflex"s they sell at canadian tire.

Valeo wipers. :)

using the icons, no issues so far. Boots, why don't you like the icons?

I used the first version of the reflex, they were garbage.

I like the Bosch micro edge.

I use the Michelin frameless wipers from Costco. Can't complain for $12 each.

I find that most frameless wipers ice up to easily in snow and cold weather. For winter, I perfer the old style: heavy frame with rubber boot surrounding it- but any faster than 100km/h and they start flapping like crazy.

Frameless can go up to max speed on the autobahn and still wipe perfect.

icons are only about $20/ea

Ditto on the Bosch Micro edge, great wipe no chatter or lift.

Frameless wipers suck. I had them on last year and while scraping off ice from the windshield I contacted one of them and bent it out of shape. Once bent, they cannot be straightened back to normal. They're only good for three season driving IMHO.

My friend had the icons on his car, and in the rain they would always miss spots.

Then again, maybe the pair he bought were defective.

Bad experience with the Reflex here on two different cars. On one car the blade is so long that it chatters and lift at the far tips. On the other car they never contacted the passenger side properly and left big streaks on the windshield.

Went back to the cheap CTC metal blades, $6.99 each or so. Replace when worn. Rinse and repeat.

I am using reflex one right now and passenger side works good but not on driver side. It makes noise like when I am using wiper where no liquid on the surface. sounds like ta ta ta

I might change driver side only back to old style. BTW., Do I really need a wind reflector on the driver side?? Cuz I think I threw OE reflector away..

Now that's not really the wiper's fault, now is it?

if you're using the canadian tire metal blades, I suggest you go back to OEM. I found that the Canadian tire blades only last about 6-8 months before needing a change. The original blades last up to 2 years. On top of that, you don't need to replace the entire blade, just the insert on the originals.

btw, I don't konw if this is an issue, but I noticed you guys have a lot of vibration problems with these wipers. I actually rainx all my windshields, so I'm wondering if that's the reason I never get any vibration.

For winter I just use rainx washerfluid and it re-coat's my windshield when I need it.

I use the dealer refills for the wiper blades. No aftermarket blade can beat the frame of the dealer's wiper blade in my opinion. They last the longest from what I've used.

I have the Michelin frameless on my beater, hands down the shittiest wiper I've ever used, they freeze up constantly, miss vast areas of the windshield, and smear water instead of wiping it.

I still have the same wipers on my 328 that came with the car over 5 years ago (80,000km ago), but then again it's not winter driven and I use rain-x.

Rain-X is the way to go. If you're going fast enough you won't even need to use your wipers.

My friend's Audi came with Valeo. he says replacement inserts are about $25 each, but the arms are about $100 or so. Says he'll never go back.

they're 20$ for 2 for the whole thing (for valeo's) on tirerack.

one more qestion, Do I really need to change my wiper arms too??

I see little rust there but seems like they don't really need to be replaced..

I called BMW toronto to ask them about the price,

$66/each for wiper arm $73/pair for the blades..

I might go with dealer blades..

propr'one
11-27-2007, 07:46 PM
what the ****? 73$ for the blades?

you gotta be kidding. almost any shitty wiper will last a few months. I just want to get some b etter ones for winter.

skru_fase
11-27-2007, 08:17 PM
$73 for the blades must be the whole assembly. this thread got me thinking, and i went out and bought the new rubber blades today from the dealership. $30 for the pair. not sure how old the last ones were, but the new ones work way better.

need to top-up the rain-x tho

summit425

I think there are 3 big parts

1. Wiper Arm : Metal that controls Wiper blade (#1 in the picture)

2. Wiper blade : this attaches to wiper arm (#3 in the picture)

4. Wiper blade insert : actual rubber that contacts with wind shield. (#10 in the picture)

I think you paid $30 for 2 blade inserts.

$73 for wiper blade: this might comes with wiper blade + insert (rubber)

My queestion is... do we need to change our wiper arms??

anyone else have experience with the michelin frameless wiper blades.... i was really interested in getting a pair fro wal-mart..... but if there that bad.. then..........

maybe i might order a pair of valeo from tirerack.com if it's a good steal...?

I think you only need to change the rubber insert on the blade. I wouldn't bother changing the whole blade.

I've had those Michellin frameless blades (not the rain-x ones) since May. Perfect in the rain, absolutely flawless and no streaking. However, in the other week's snowstorm I noticed the passenger side left some "unwiped" sections, but it wasn't that bad. They still work amazing enough that I wouldn't replace mine just yet. Hope this helps!

IMHO I had valeos, and now a similar design almost identical out of NAPA, and I can say hands down shittiest wipers ever. Above 130 they start missing large areas right in the middle of the blade, along side the driver side of the windshield it seems liek the aerodynamic vacuum the little downforce flap creates just smears water right back towards the windshield. Im going to the old metal frame bosch
