This was a problem last year too (on my '88 E30), but forgot about it until yesterday when it dropped below zero.
The door lock motor can't unlock the door locks when it gets cold. I have to use the key, and really force it... almost feels like I'm gonna break the key in the lock (which would be bad!).

What do I need to grease, or oil to get thing moving smoothly again?
Do I need to pull the inside door panel off?

try getting some white lithium grease and spray it into the door lock generously. (do it when its warmer out.) see if it helps.

Best thing is to remove both inner door panels and spray the pi$$ out of the lock pivots, again when its warmer out or indoors if possible. Had the same problem the other door but had to take a cab to work, no way was the lock moving...

Like I said in another post, don't forget that your door lock has heat. Pull up on the handle while applying light turning pressure on the lock with the key. After a few seconds a heater coil comes on around the lock cylinder and it will free right up.

hopefully it still works... i sure know mine didn't when I had this problem.

Like previously said, spray the 'F' out of it with lithium grease

Huh, well, three e30s and they all worked for me. I wonder if the e34 has this too?
