View Full Version : Give me the Pro's and Con's of a 335i vs. G37

Hound
11-02-2007, 07:40 PM
Thinking right now of trading in the dub for something different (just tossing it around not 100% sure yet) but I want your guys honest opinion of the 335i vs. the G37.

The 335 im considering is this one:

Sedan
Black on Black
M Aerodynamic package
6spd
sport package
premium package
19" multi piece 5 spoke rims not sure if they are 2 piece 3 piece or just have the "look"

The G37 would be this:

Blue on black
"sport package" 6spd brembo's, lsd etc.
technoligy package (gps etc.)

Either that or keep the GTI and mod the ever loving shit outta it. Not sure exactly just want some advice from either owners or mature pro's and con's on either car. Thanks!

335 you can easily mod it to hang out with some serious big boys like m5, g37 you cant!

Yea 335 all the way. But the GTI isnt bad either. Small tossable car compared to a heavier e90. And negatory on the infiniti Sean *no-no* lol

I think it comes down to styling... I find the G37 MUCH more aggressive in the looks department. As for performance, you already know the answer.

So what kind of mods would you want to do to the GTi? You need to know exactly what you want out of the car...

As for what you should get, buy my S4 ans mod the crap out of that. I can have it built up and ready for you down here. Just need to fly down and bring her home ;)

from what I read from magazine articles, the 335 is better in almost every way.

There are only 2 things that the G37 beats the 335. One is passing acceleration (I think it was like 70mph to 150mph), the other is price.

335 beats it in every other category.

Btw, I wouldn't bother with OEM rims.

Already bailing on a lease? Maybe you should buy a house or something, instead of pouring this money away.

Like Jay said, if it's a lease, unless you've got money falling out of your asshole, stay put - and if you do, buy a house. You can't trade it in because it doesn't belong to you. The best you can do is put it up on leasebusters for someone to take over or try to sell it for somewhere close to the buyback + remainder of the lease value, and pay the difference.

After that's done though, I say go with the 335i - or even the 135i when it comes. My understanding is that it's not a whole lot less spacious for the front 2 passengers. It's just trimmer and has fewer doodads - what the 318ti should have been.

Go for the 335i, its the overall better car and it will be alot more fun! The G37 will be worth dick all in two years, so if you want one instead of a 335i, wait a few years.

who said you cant trade in a lease? We've done it already. Mind you we only had 2-3 months left on the lease on our Lexus, traded it into BMW Missisauga, they paid off the last few payments and bought the car off the lease plus they gave us 2500 in equity out of the car.

LOL.

2005 330I, avg retail = 41,900.
2005 G35, avg retail = 33,997.

This is a quick "value finder" from autotrader, so a rough but reasonably accurate estimate regarding depreciation of current models as well. So yes, Japanese cars hold 10x better resale value than BMWs.

Sean, seriously... for the amount you drive, you really need to reconsider leasing ANYTHING. You've got 10,000KM on that golf already and owned it for 5 months! If I were you, save up some money while you can... and purchase another car outright (obviously not a brand new $45k BMW). Maybe an E36 M3? Then you can drive/mod it all you want without worrying about residuals and mileage penalties. I thought you woulda learned this lesson after the mileage issues on the E60 & TL. Surprised you leased the GTI at all.

Hey dude,

Forget what everyone is saying to you about not buying a new car. It's your money, you do what you want with it and that's it. You'll do what makes you happy and that's it.

You know that my recommendation will be a little swayed towards the 335 for obvious reasons.

I don't know much about the G37 other then I can smoke em easily. With the very inexpensive tuning capabilities of the 335 you can play with allot of amazing cars. In the recent M5Board Airfield Event the V2 Vishnu tuned 335 beat the following cars:

2008 BMW M3 V8 e92 - V2 335 Beat It by 5 CL
2008 Porsche Carrera 4 - V2 335 Beat It By 5 CL
2007 Audi RS4 - V2 335 Beat It By 5 CL
2007 SL55 AMG - V2 335 Beat It By 5 CL

BMW M5 E60 Touring was equal to the V2 335.

Here is the link to the e90post: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92258

And a link to the m5Board for more info:

Hound

which was the plan anyways, more so due to millage. it just came about that I could buy out the car soon and then I was thinking of either keeping it, or trading. I see no problem with modding a leased car, I know a few people who have done it all you do if you are not going to keep it at the end is return the car back to stock, and if you have a mod friendly dealership then you don't have to worry about warrenty issues or anything like that.

Hey Sean, if I was in your shoes right now I would go for an E39 M5 or an E46 M3. The Mazdaspeed 3 is another car you might want to consider, a lot of headroom which I'm sure is something you would be concerned with.

As for the 335 and G37, I'de say go with 335 or a G35 coupe, G37's are ugly!!
