Even though the 335 is a great car, I would still have to choose the ///M3
LSD FTW

Since they are close in performance, I would get the one in which you like the interior and exterior styling more.

M3 for sure, just for the M

if you can jump on e92 go for it.

335 coupe looks so much greater than e46. Not for sedan though.

If I have a choice I will choose 335 coupe over e46 ///M3.

E46 interior I still love, E92 Interior makes me wanna hurl, that aside the e92 exterior styling is growing on me, and there is no denying 335i is the greater performer if equipped with LSD in 08.

Hands down the 335........... from talks with someone racing E90's professionally.......... the chassis is way superior to the E46........... from a racing perspective. I know we're talking about the coupe, but the chasis technology is pretty much the same relatively speaking. Chassis styling is nicer to my eyes as well. And I like turbo's. Turbo cars are a wicked starting platform. With a chip, you can easily get great gains at a relatively low cost. And if you want to go nuts and spend money, the layout for the plumbing is all there already.......... and there's some wicked turbo technology out there to get CRAZY HP.

That being said.................. I'd take the new M3 in a heart beat over the 335. Still astounding that the new M3 V8 motor is lighter then the E46 M3 inline 6. Wicked. Too bad we have to wait until 2008 for it to arrive apparently. Oh........... and too bad I have no money so I won't be buying one........... or a 335............... or even a rusting old E30. *mumble*

Why don't you just get an e92 M3. Reach in your pants, find the string and give it a tug. Get the best of both worlds.

e92 m3 is more $$$ then the 335. that could be a huge issue.
an 05/06 M3 is no longer made, making them a used car and easily $20,000 less then the 335 with a couple options (sport package and 19s)
i went through this before i got my m3. i see the 335 as a car that is just like the e46 330, you drive the car and thats it. the e46 m3, now outdated, is still a remarkable car. cheaper then the 335 means you can invest some money into it ($20,000 is quite a bit to invest) and you'll easily have an enjoyable car. the 335, great car but you won't find the rawness that you'll get in the m3.
m3 = your connected to the road.
335 = your driving a car.
which ever one is faster, who really cares, don't get busted doing 50 over and get an m car in my opinion. better resale, more exclusive, and you can say you own a m also.

That's the biggest load of crap i've heard in my life. the 335 is just as quick in the quarter mile and a stiffer chassis, yet the e46 m3 is connected to the road and the 335 is a grocery getter, a car you just drive around??? second, you'll easily have an enjoyable car if you drop $20k into the m3? what? it isn't enjoyable bone stock? this coming from a guy who has one? *thmbsdwn* :puke:

you get a chip for the 335 and its very noticeable thats its faster, but at the same time, your paying A LOT more for the 335 then the m3. also think about how easily both cars can get to 50 over the limit, would your really want to push it that much faster and risk losing the car and your license?
i never said the 335 was a grocery getter so relax. i'm saying, theres a difference between an m car and a regular 3 series. a regular 3 series will have more comfort then the m3. quieter motor, smoother ride, softer suspension, etc.
i never said the m3 wasn't enjoyable stock. but if people are going to mod the 335, then i can add the fact that you'll have more money to drop if you wanted on the m3. don't have a heart attack now.

to the OP: is the car going to be a daily driver, weekend car, show car, track rat?

cant go wrong with either choice. personally id go for the 335. the potential for that car in the near future is gonna be well worth the early investment (i mean performance upgrades and styling).

i see where you're going but find that you're exaggerating the difference. a 3 series with sport suspension is hardly a smooth, soft ride. i feel the e46 body style will age fast, especially since there are so many of them on the road. the 335 is just as quick as the older m3. its still rather rare. many mods will be available for it. i just can't see how one can lose with the 335.

They're both good choices... If it doesn't matter to you that it's an M car then get the 335..

Must be a nice choice to have. Bastards!! :) I think I'd take the new 335 (well, maybe the next model year). Dunno if I'd risk the first generation, as BMW will lie openly about its flaws, only to address them in year 2.

With that kind of money available I would import a mint low mileage E30 M3 Evolution of some kind and pick up an E36 328 as a daily. *rockout*

I have a better idea.

Don't ask the board, its a matter of personal taste really.
Go out and do a lenghty test drive with both cars back to back and decide which you like better. But make sure you get out on the HWY, local roads, some twisty bits, etc... so you get a good feel for both.

Exactly what I did! and I made the right choice. The E46 M3 made me feel every bit better than the E92, coupe and cabriolet.

not to mention every dealer I asked, admited to the E90, E92 interior being poorly made and designed compared to the E46. They really cheaped out in my oppinion.

and I don't care what anyone says on here, an M car will always be worth more resale value.

I'd like to see a 3 year old 335i coupe or cabrio still be worth close to $50,000in the near future, just like the majority of 2004 M3 coupe and cabs!

stop comparing apples with oranges.

I also think its a personal preference but the coupe is 10x better than the sedan.

Also if your buying a brand new 335, make sure it has the oil cooler. I believe the older ones do not have one and cause high oil temp. even during normal driving on a hot day, about 120C.

For that sort of money, E30 M3 restored and done to the 9's..............

This new stuff is all junk. There was a big write-up on the top M cars in Europe. I believe the E30 M3 was #1, the E39 M5 #2................ and none of the newer stuff was anywhere to be found......... and that included the newest and latest M3 and M5/M6.
