as the thread title says... lookin' for 6 pistons from a E30 318is (M42 engine code).

I know they're probably not the easiest things to locate, so if anyone could help that'd be great.

thanks

just wondering - why 6? the m42 is a 4banger - are you trying to fit them in a m20 block?

Sorry man, took a look... Theres only 5. 3 are from Beach Auto, in rough, rough shape. And the 2 others are from a blown engine, with bits of rings and crap stuck in the top of the piston.

that's alright man.. thanks for lookin' anyways... seems like I need to do a little more research about using the M42 pistons anyways, as the CR drop's pretty low with the stock M20 crank. I think going with an M50 crank and/or rods will help that. But I'm still looking into it.

For now a turbo 2.7L it is.... watch for a 400+WHP E30 coming to a road near you lol...

Stock 2.7 bottom end + i head will take you to 7.8 CR (IIRC). That's a bit low, but it's all bolt together, and can withstand 400-500 WHP with proper tuning, a stock HD, and metric blue head bolts. That's what I'd be doing instead of trying to source 6 pistons out of two engines. Also, if you do rebuild/build it up, then put good quality rod bolts, as those are the weakest link in the bottom end from what I've read around on E30Tech. Also, a bone stock M20B25 makes awesome power if done right (stock internally except for HG and HB).

It's a little low, but that's ok... going with M42 pistons & stock crank goes to about 7:1... so I'm looking into what crank to use as well. Anyone know if an M50 crank will fit w/o modifications?

400WHP shouldn't be much of a problem I think... the car will be running VEMS so tuning isn't an issue.

Gonna go with new stock HB's as I'm not a fan of MB's with a MLS gasket... and there's a few people that agree with me on that on various E30 sites. If anything a set of ARP studs will go in eventually.
