Okay, well, the time has come to finalize the details for the Gauge Ring and More group buy (see thread http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88804). Below is the pricing list. I need everyone to check in and confirm that they are still in for the group buy. A couple items that were requested are special order and thus need to be ordered online (I have left these items on the list for now, but they will be removed in the final order).

Jeremy at Bimmian has agreed to let everyone go to the warehouse to pay for and pick up their own items. This is an excellent option in my opinion since once the order is in, there will be no waiting (order turn around time is about 24 hours). Thanks to Hound for this idea! In order to take advantage of this pickup option however, I'll need to provide Bimmian with the final item list, along with everyone's name and e-mail address. So, once you have confirmed your participation in the group buy, please PM me your real name and e-mail address. (of course if need be we can probably arrange other pick up options amungst ourselves so that everyone doesn't have to go).

Others are welcome to join the group buy at this time, however please stick to ordering things that are already priced out in the list below so we don't have to wait on more pricing. Once I submit the list, you can feel free to contact Bimmian to add more items to your personal order.

** IMPORTANT ** This thread is to finalize the order. Please do not join the list unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure you are going to follow through on payment and pickup. I'll leave the thread open at least until everyone on the original list has responded.

I'm starting to write a novel here ... so just to reiterate - everyone please confirm your participation by posting a yes, and pming me your name and e-mail address.

Thanks ... here is the list as received from bimmian. Prices are in CDN$ taxes in!

^ Ivan I don't mind grabbing your stuff bro.

Seven can you give me this guys email so I can colaborate with him regarding the interior xenon kit. I need to know what he means by config, Im guessing because they don't have one they need to know what kind of lights are in there so that they can put a kit together.

EDIT: Just got directions from Bimmian, it is in Oshawa! Please read the quoted message as well!!

Ok, follow the link for directions. Pick-up at the warehouse is by
appointment only! Have each customer e-mail me for pick-up arrangements.
These prices are only for the group buy so If some one shows up without an
appointment and is not on the list you send me they are out of luck!

http://www.************/directions.htm

As a side note, please read the entire first post in this thread before posting, I know it's long, but contains oh so much good info :).

And if you are going to pick up your own merchandise, please state this and PM me your info. Otherwise, start discussing amungst yourselves as to how we will arrange payment and pick up. If people live close to each other it would probably make sence to organize small groups, just a thought.

quick question: how hard is it to install those snap-in gauge rings for the E36?

if its easy, i might want in.

Seven
05-11-2007, 04:54 PM
I'm sure it depends on the exact application, but it's supposed to be pretty easy. Two screws to get the cluster out of the dash, then some other disassembly once it's out, snap in, reassemble ... bling bling.

There are instructions all over various bmw forums and on ************.

Just a suggestion. It seems that many people would prefer not to drive out individually to get the items. This is understandable given bimmian is out in Oshawa. It would probably be helpful if you are looking to have someone pick up your stuff, if you post where you are located, or at least the general area.

I would also suggest that people pool together at meets, like the Niagara cruise tonight, or the bi-weekly meet tomorrow, the Wasaga cruise next week ... etc.

I have no problems picking up stuff for people as well. However, as I've said before, I don't make it out to many meets, so if it works that I'm passing by some of you guys I'll make a stop.

Also, I believe Bimmian is only open during normal business hours, Saturday pick-up may be arranged by special request, but no gaurentees. Pick-up is also by appointment only as stated above ... just keep these things in mind while planning.

Finally, once I get the order in, you guys are free to make your own pick-up arrangements, I will get you in touch with Bimmian ... so, just keep confirming your interest so we can get the order in. *th-up*

Happy Monday Everyone! :P

I had an idea over the weekend which will hopefully make this group buy go a little smoother. The idea is as follows:

We have a "payment meet" this coming Wednesday at Yorkdale Mall ... I'm thinking on top of the parking garage from like 8:30 - 9:30 or 10pm (unless it's raining, then second level from the top). Everyone who makes it out to this meet and pays for their items, will have their order delivered to them on Saturday at one of the Wasaga Cruise meeting spots, see http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89822. You don't have to participate in the Saturday cruise, but you would have to show up to one of the meeting spots.

Everyone who does not make it out to the payment meet and/or Saturday meeting spots will be on their own to arrange a pick-up time with Bimmian ... again, I'll get you in touch with them.

Thoughts?

I still need a few people to confirm their order before I can submit the list (before Wednesday night) ... so please check in if you haven't already. Thanks ... updated list is below.

Awesome! Just waiting for 3 more people to confirm their order ... then I'll send the list back into Bimmian.

From responses so far it looks like the Yorkdale meet on Wednesday will be worth while. Like I posted before, we'll meet on the top level of the parking garage (out in the "fresh" air), unless it's raining, in which case we will meet on the second from the top level. Meet time will be 8:30, and I'll personally stick around for an hour or so to give everyone time. It's up to you guys if you want to hang around and have an actual meet, or just drop off your cash, tell me who you are and take off.

Again, for those who come out and pay on Wednesday, we will get you your stuff at one of the meeting spots for the Wasaga Cruise this Saturday.

For those who can't make it out, you'll have to arrange pick up with Bimmian yourself via e-mail, or with your fellow Max Members who were also not able to make it out on Wednesday.

Not sad at all man ... I feel the same way! :) It's such a simple thing, but makes such a huge difference to the look of the cluster. I'm still confused why BMW didn't make the gauge rings a standard feature (until recently - kinda).

Just a reminder that the Group Buy Payment Meet is tonight 8:30-9:30pm at the Yorkdale Mall parking garage. If the rain holds out we will be on the top of the garage, otherwise, second from top level. Not sure yet whether I'll be driving my BMW, but regardless I'll stand outside my car, for those of you that don't know me I'll probably be wearing a brown baseball hat. Hound has graciously offered to help out with this group buy, he will actually be the one that is going to Bimmian to pick up your items ... so, if you don't see me at the meet, feel free to give your cash to Hound as well. Just make sure you tell us who you are! :)

Please note that the group buy pricing is based on a cash deal ... therefore, you must bring cash for the total amount of your items to the meet. We will not accept, ious, cheques, interac, or credit cards ... well, maybe credit cards, but there will be an approximate 300% markup on the price of your order (I need to spice up my wardrobe! ;))

At the conclusion of the meet, I will break the list into two, one list will contain the orders of everyone who got us their money tonight. The other list will be of those that will need to arrange pickup with Bimmian themselves. I'll send both lists into Bimmian tonight. Hound will then pick up the qualifying items on Friday and delivery will be at the meeting spots for the Wasaga Cruise this weekend. I will PM everyone who doesn't make it out tonight with instructions of how you need to proceed.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

The group buy is now effectively closed! Thanks to everyone participating! I hope your new accessories bring you and your ride endless joy!! :)

It definitely was nice to put a few faces to the names! Thanks to all of those who came out to the payment meet. We had a better turnout than I expected actually, 12 of the 16 people got us their money and thus will be getting their items very soon.

The order has been submitted to Bimmian!! *th-up* As I stated above, I split the list into two seperate lists.

The first list contains the orders for everyone who has already paid. Hound will be picking these items up on Friday and distributing them at the meeting spots for the Wasaga Cruise this weekend. A few people have made alternate delivery arrangements, so those will be handled as planned.

The second list contains the people (and their items) who will need to arrange their own pickup/payment with Bimmian. Once I hear back from Bimmian I will PM these people to let them know how to proceed (this should be tomorrow).

I'm very tired right now so I'm sure I'm forgetting something. But that is the update thus far. Feel free to ask questions. I will continue to update this thread over the next couple days.

Thanks again to everyone involved!! *wave*

Final Update:

Bimmian has already packaged up all of the items for those that have paid. They even packaged up everyone's order individually and put their max user name on the package to make sorting out the delivery easier. :)

PMs have been sent to those that need to arrange individual pickup.

For those that have paid your items will be available at the Wasaga Cruise meeting spots (see the meets section for times and locations). If you've made other arrangements with either Hound or myself you will get your items at the arranged time.

The group buy is closed. Feel free to ask questions if you have them ... unless your question is "can I be added to the group buy?", because the answer to this question will be no. :)

Thanks again to everyone participating. I hope you enjoy your new found bling. Thanks especially to Hound for taking care of the pickup/delivery, I think we all owe him a beer, maybe spread out over time, when he's not driving, he's a big guy, but 16 beers might be slightly over the legal limit! ;)

See y'all soon.

%&#! I can't get the ****ers to snap in!! Is there any way to remove the glass panel on the E36 cluster?

05-19-2007, 05:25 PM
I had a bit of trouble, and was wondering if I should take the glass off.

However, you can install them with the glass on. Coming from the back, I was able to push the rings through on a angle, and then snap them in place.

Guage Rings Install - E36 (http://www.unitedbimmer.com/kb-e36-silvergaugerings.php)

I should have taken some pictures, because I didn't find any DIY pics about poping the Rings in place; just remving the cluster.

That's the thing, mine wouldn't snap into place at all :S

They seemed to be just a hair too large and would NOT pop in no matter what I did: using two people, zzip ties, and whatnot. I'm starting to think my set is defective.

dtthiaga

Mine is a e46, and it snapped in very easily. It seems like the e46 and e36 clusters are very similar. Perhaps the rings are universal, and some shaving may be required.

I did read somewhere that you may need to shave the cluster plastic slightly.

Bimmian Install Instructions (http://www.************/page.htm?page=instructions)

The Tools List includes a Utility Knife. So, you may need to use it.

See step #6: With the gauge panel set aside. "Dry-fit" each ring into the front of the gauge pod to insure a proper fit. If necessary use a utility knife and/or sandpaper to remove any excess material to get the proper fit.

Little is more, so if you're going to go about this, take little steps in standing/scraping with the knife so you don't damge the guage cluster plastic.

I'm surprised you're having trouble... I have an E36 here and they went in super easy. I was actually impressed at how perfectly they fit. Can you get any of them into place? I find it hard to believe all 4 rings are defective. Maybe you got a set for the wrong style of car????

Anyway, just keep persisting. Eventually you'll get them in there, or rip your cluster apart trying. In which case you wont need the rings anyway... Maybe call Bimmian on Tuesday.

Big thanks to Hound and Seven for carrying out this GB.

I really don't want to start messing with the cluster by trimming anything. The rings simply will not fit, it is evident they are too large for the opening. After about two hours I managed to snag one in there with the aid of zip ties, but it popped out a few seconds later at the slightest touch of the cluster. Clearly there's no way I could get them all in if they keep popping out so easily. Something is definetley up :(

My fingers are still sore from all those attempts at cramming them in there. I'm pretty sure I'm not doing anything wrong here.

Could you measure the overall diamter of the rings (from the back). Perhaps you got the e34 rather than the e36/e46 rings.

Perhaps someone who hasn't installed their rings yet could measure the diameter (e36/e46) and post it.

on a side note I installed my rings yesterday and man do they look great! I can't stop looking at them :D

thanks for your hard work and diligance (spl?) on the group buy Ben *th-up* mine except for one went in super easy, and the hard or I just molded it to the shape it needed to be by slightly bending it.

Yup, thanks for arranging the group buy - awesome.

I installed mine yesterday and they look great. One of the small rings was hard to get in and I think there might be slight differences in size cause the other small ring fit in perfect. I ended up 'molding' the ring a bit to make it fit.

Thanks again. it looks great.

Wow, it's awesome to see everyone putting their products to use so quick. I still haven't put my rings in, although I have an excuse, my weekend was pretty packed and included other car maintenance related tasks.

No problem about putting the GB together, the forum made it pretty easy ... Sean deserves a big thank you for doing the actual drive out to bimmian and distributing the products.

Everyone who has gauge ring issues and hasn't contacted Jeremy directly yet please PM me so that I can give you his contact info. Below is the quoted response I received from Jeremy when inquiring about the ring fitment issue.

Two of your members have contacted me already. There may be a problem with our current stock of E36 rings. We are unsure and are looking into it at this time. Please have any members with this issue, contact me directly so I can help them out.

We will replace any rings that have fitment problems. Sorry about this... we have never had this problem before! We are going to reorder a whole new batch from our supplier.
