Hey M_Powered...

Where are you from in Portugal...

I'm from the south-Baxio Alentejo... A town called Aljustrel which is located by Beja.

I got an 93 VW Passat TD (shipped from here), and an 84 Renault 9. Used to have a 74 Datsun F10 that my dad shipped from here, but that car has been sold.

Shipping you 316 here would cost that much. I was looking into shipping the 93 Passat here, and was quoted about $500 CDN from a shipper in Oporto. The only problem you would be f***ed by Canada Customs and the Ministry of Transport!

I think you mean the 16v head of 318is, not 318i .

It seems impossible to put the 16v head on a 316i engine, but you can rebuild this 316i engine as 1800cc 8v engine...

no no u got its all wrong buddy its not a 318is head i have i have a 318i head off a 72 320i but i just found it it will fit so i dont need any info fitting it!

I'm not sure if the only difference between the M40 (single cam 316/318 euro engine, 88-90) and the M42 (twin cam) is the head... Although if it is, then fitting a M42 head on the M40 engine shouldn't be too hard if the bolts line up, the profile of the head gaskets are the same, and the crank timing chain gear has the same amount of teeth as the M42 (if not just swap it). I guess the only way to make sure is to try it and see if the engine runs. Good old trial and error.*mumble*

why not just drop the 1.8L motor? you will have more torque..or just go for the 2.5L engine, or my absolute favorite..THE 3.0L! hehe

.2 L wont make a HUGE difference in fuel economy..but it will in power and mods, how many mods are there for the 316 compared to the 318? why not just import it here then

Not that you can do all that many engine mods there anyway to due very strict yearly vehicle inspections.
