if you get ones that are properly made for you car, (i.e. check BMP) then NO, it will NOT damage your car!!

It depends on the wheel. My 18's are a Japanese wheel with a high offset (42mm). To fit them on my E30 I used a 10mm in the front and 20mm in the rear (I didn't know that they were crappy spacers...big mistake). I'm hoping that empowerd has found the good H&R spacers in Germany for me while he is there.

I got a little bit of rubbing under hard shifting with someone in the rear because of the springs (Apex 60mm drop). Going with coil overs to fix that problem!

Probably they don't want to deal with a customer complaining that the tires rub slightly on the rear inner fender. Besides when I ordered mine they told me that there will be issues about rubbing, but I knew already. Trial and error is the only way of stuffing large diameter wheels in any car.

probably didnt want you to come back after they rub. wheel shops are dumb about lil things like that, afraid they might get sued.

why did you put 10mm in front and 20 in back? do you have pics showing front and back wheels with spacers on?

Well you can use different sizes to bring out the "track" (width) of the wheels for handling or to fit wheels with improper offset. But since I was getting some small rubbing with low springs and weight in the back I think I will go with 15mm in the rear instead of the 20mm. I'm shure the 5mm isn't going to change the cars handling that much or if any.

m50e30 your car's ride must be really stiff. if it only rubs a bit under hard shifting. What else is under there?. Big sway bars, polyurathane bushings , strut braces?

When I refered to extra weight in the back should have said I had crap in the trunk and Bliss (even tho he has a scrawny butt LOL!) in the back seat. No big sway bars, bushings, braces, etc... either. Just 2.5 inch Apex lowering springs with sport shocks.

BTW I am looking for a m50 for my car thanks for the advice. I am putting in a 1.8 next week so I can at least drive it ( might not till it stops snowing, It just got home from the body shop)
didn't find anything yet. AS I have said before I have been taken on the engine thing before. So i have been a lot more careful on how and where I get one from.won't be doing the 18"s..Your braver than me. Looks good though. I I put new spring on the car with a 1" drop( hate them) It dosen't look any different

what's the downside of using your japanese spacers as opposed to ones by H&R ?

i've always wondered about spacers too, because i want my rear wheels to stick out just a little more.

The spacers I got with my wheel and tire package were made in Germany but were not H&R. The H&R spacers have (for my car) 8 holes. 4 for bolting on the wheel hub and 4 for the wheel. Since my wheels are dual bolt pattern i'm hoping that empowerd can find a proper set while he is in Germany.

Here is an example of the spacers I want...
