whats that sensor by the alternator. when u converted it to obd1 did u tap the head and the thermostat for the dual temp senors. or did u just leave it.

do u have the tranny>?

mmmmm... by the way i dont think thats a s52. on the s52's the oil filler cap is closest to the firewall not the radiator.
here take a look this is actually a s52, from a 1997

The sensor by the alternator is an air temp sensor, which plugs into the stock air box. Totally nit required (it's for collant by-pass in the TB).

The engine in this thread is an s52 ... oil cap is right. The picture you posted a link to as an s50 (obd1 3.0L M3 motor)

I was just looking at the same thing, the 323/328's have the plastic one, the M3 has the aluminum one......

Vin on the back side of the head will confirm all.
Plug the number into carfax, and it will give the eng details.

in a way it looks like a s52 but,
It has OBDII coils with an OBDI coil harness, as the OBDII valve cover is not notched properly for the harness and the OBDI harness runs a little different than the 2. Also has the 3.2's 21.5# pink top fuel injectors.

Looks like an OBDI 3.2 to me. That plumbing near the vanos cover is pretty sketchy though.

I'd get an engine code off the block or a VIN number if I were you so you can be positive. Anybody can Frankenstein a motor.
s50's do have metal oil filter tops.

Yup, all M3 motors (s50 and s52), as well as 325s were metal. I suppose that the 328 filter housing would fit, but why was it swapped?

i am the seller and i didnt get ripped off, i swapped the oil filter cap and valve cover as the originals were scratchede horribly. The oil filter cap and valve cover is off a 328 as they are the same fit as the m3, only thing that is not the same is the oil filter cap, wich is plastic i have the old one as well but its scratched alond with the valve cover.

p.s. the 97 m3 valve covers are plastic not aluminum, 95's were aluminum like the 325's. 96-99 M3 VALVE COVERS R PLASTIC AND SO IT THE OIL CAP.

Do ur homework b4 u post. And the reason I didnt post is because I am in the canadian armed forces fighting for this country. And that looks damn good jus crzn

Here's a pic.
I know these motors and yours, dosn't look right.
Metal oil filter cap is just one visual diff between m52 and s52...

Well, actually, you're not really fighting for THIS country, since we're not at war, but that's another topic entirely.

We asked for an explanation on the 328 filter cover, and you provided it ... makes sense to me! All we were asking is to provide details of obvious differences from a stock s52 motor, even if some members choose to be more bitchy about that others :)

Good luck with the sale.

Why is he a joke?
He has an engine for sale already converted. There were quesitons, he answered them. The oil filter housing was also purchased from a respected member on the forum too, which does add credibility.
