View Full Version : Supercharged E30

The Sly
10-26-2006, 03:26 PM
Finally done
I have been able to supercharge my e30 with a M62 Eaton supercharger.

I was able to bring it up to 13lbs at first try but now it is up to 7 lbs.

Since i have a high compression 2.7i, detonation is right around the corner so i have ordered a thick multilayer head gasket with arp head studs.

Here are a few pictures of the setup :
Alternator is on the other side

It all started on my mock-up engine

Most of the guys uses the Super ETA setup but in this case it is not..
I have presently 10 to 1 compression

What kind of power are you making?

The Sly
11-01-2006, 08:11 PM
AS of now none... cause i took the head off the car to put in a thicker head gasket so i can raise the boooost and also put in a fuel management system and timing control unit.....

When i first tried it ...Lets say first gear is worthless and 2nd gear is almost wortless since i spin all the way on both gears and 3rd spins but then i start to have traction so i need to change the Diff sooon and this was at 7 pounds but i want to go as high as i can...

Hey Sly, I've got a 2.93LSD coming out of my parts car you can have for next to thing if you need it. Pm me.

11-02-2006, 01:15 AM
Oh, and awesome. If this works out, you may have a customer. I originally wanted to s/c and was convinced to go turbo because of the knowledge base. My e30 has no power steering and the overflow tank can move, leaving the whole left side of the motor if that helps.. :)

Seriously, I'm interested.

The Sly
11-02-2006, 01:37 PM
Hey guys

This project was actually cheap...
Supercharger is from a Benz and cost me $300.00
For the tubing and metal "FREE" favor from a friend.
pulleys and belts top $80.00
Bypass valve $70.00

Oh yea the gauges were $70.00 + $50.00 i think

Labour was all mine and that is where it took a while to construct..

So
Who can boost from $500.00*th-up*
Next is the fuel and timing that needs attention and also Intercooler for sure before next summer..
I just got a MLS Head gasket for $220.00 US which i have to put in there because of the hi compression that i already have.

And that should be it ...Oh yea Tires next summer and I would not mind a 2.93LSD Diff f the price is right.:D

And then i guess we will take orders to built a few more for some of you guys.

I just got myself a M90 supercharger from a Ford 3.8 for my next project..
So this M62 will eventually be sold.

Heard this thing hit 13psi. Sounds pretty crazy.

I better get a job soon, the HP war at Sylvains is getting pretty serious. Stage 1 isnt going to cut it anymore for the 535i. Stage 2 is going to have to comence sooner than I thought.

BTW Sylvain I may be able to make it up on Sunday too lift my head.

I hear that the G60 supercharger is not very good.

I used the M62 from a Benz because of the short shaft.
AS for the installation of mine trhe most important thing is the Mig Welder.
I used it for everything needed for the built, from brackets to hold the supercharger to pulleys to the tubing for intake and pressure side fo the s/c

Do you have a tow / ramp truck to get it there? My bro has a trailer but it may be put away for the winter.

Here's the deal: I need the head off of it to machine notches in some turbo manifolds I have. If we can take the car out there, I'll pull the head (I could do it here but have no experience with it).. then I'll know how to pull a head.

I don't even need a good head for machining the manifolds, if you've got a bad one I could use it too. In any case, once I'm done machining them you can have the head back, it does me no good!

hey how is the man?

So how is that turbo 318 doing??

i'm doing good, the car not so much.

I found a guy in kingston that does some pro work to redo my mani.
tapp & a lot of other shops have used him.
i dropped the car off oct15th was suppossed to be done Nov15th (yeah right)
but we know how the custom mod stuff can go.

so hopefully before x-mas i'll have it back with;
new manifold w/external wastegate. turbo's weight will be supported &
my rigid Downpipe will now have some flexpipe in it (very important)
also polished intake piping, etc.

then i'll need to worry about my 5000Km old leaking seals on my most awesome rebuild *mumble*
-same shop that made the mani-
im hoping most of it is leaking from the block/pan gasket.
ah, well at least i did need those piston rings, less smoke :D

My bros has a trailer in north gower I know I can use.. its just that gas in his big block 454 to tow it will cost me $80 to get it there and back.

If I put a battery in it, I could probably drive it. :) Kidding, but true.

Sly, would you be pulling the head on it anyway? Cuz if so, i'd like to do it (here or there) just so I have the experience. If its there, I'm less likely to fark it up, but I know I could do it here too without any probs.

A small part of me wants to put this puppy back on the road to ice race it too. ;) But i have to etest it and doubt it will pass (though it does have a new cat... Hmmmmm)

So, you got a vert for a winter car?! ;) Is that the red one for $3K I've seen advertised?
It is the one you saw advertised, not a winter car, the gf needs a new car and she is still stuck on the idea of an e30 (eventhough i even tried to talk her out of it) so I thought what would be better than a vert. It turner out to be in awsome shape only 2 winters and spent 50% of it's life in Vancouver and only 2 owners, well now 3

  :huh?:

Honda?? I'd love to have a civic for the winter. Good on gas and reliable...I'd trade my ford for a civic anyday.
I had a dodge colt one winter (half a winter) and it was great on gas and very reliable but god damn it it was so crappy everywhere else. I hated it so much i ended up selling it for an e30. Guess i'm spoiled now. Would ever buy a fwd car again

Good question, It made me feel like a more responsible boyfriend, we all know I was praying that the vert deal would work out.

It's gonna be so hard not to start modding:(

Adam: take it Rob hasn't taken your car yet...trying to sell it.

Lee:Yeah steer her away from the E30's...if she runs into problems it'll be heavy on her wallet(or purse:confused: )Tell her to get an E36 of some sort, they can be pretty cheap to buy nowadays...well it's a 13 year old car..

LOL, I kinda figured you secretly wanted her to get it.:)

Tony: I think you're nuts. E30's are probably some of the cheapest/most reliable Bimmers to maintain especially if you do you're own work IMO. I hear e36's have lots of expensive issues/problems. I might be wrong, but personally I would take an e30 first. No offence to you e36 guys, but that's just what I've read and have seen:)

And Rob "should" be buying the car this weekend. But we'll see.*mumble*

Adam: yeah maybe, I'm not familiar with the E30's. I was just going on posts from what other Max members say about them.

Lee: that bmw reminds me of Beverly hills 90210 lol...Nice looking car, looks like the body is in real good shape!!! I'd hate to see the insurence on it:(

So here goes your mod list(out of your Gf's pocket of course)
Drop
Tint
Rims
Soundsystem
Turbo
Nozzzz
What else does she need?

You can get mine anytime ....i will go with the SMT6 anyway...
I got an order in for a Intercooler, tubing and clamps....
I will pick it up tomorrow....Not bad $189.00 for a new intercooler.

So i guess i need to make room for another convertible in my garage:D
Better be careful...You know how my seats are and if yours are nice...watch out :D You might get a color change Lee:D

I thinking about taking the seats out before i go up. It's like these seats were put in last week and have been treated everyyear since new.

Imay have to make the same order for and IC. I think I might take the MS if we can figure out how too hook it up too my car. I may just wait to see who Urinemachine's comes out.

I'm still confused on what man-pretty is:confused:

Here is the dictionary definition...

"Man Pretty (pretty boy):
Noun. An attractive young man, not necessarily built. Usually has a
naturally clean cut appearance, dresses well (mainly prep gear), and is very aware of his hair, skin, etc. Constantly looks in the mirror to look perfect from head to toe. pretty as opposed to handsome or manly. Occasionally derog.[Often Gay use]

Often confused with METROSEXUAL. two different things. a metrosexual is related to embracing the gay culture. Someone who is said to be "Man pretty" would punch you in the face if you said anything like that to him and might even hate gay men.

ex. Sally Thinks Johnny is so Man Pretty
ex. Look at that Man pretty piece of shit, he thinks he's so cool."

do u have any other superchargers like the one u installed in your e30 ????/
how much u looking to get for one?

I am presently doing another supercharger setup with a Eaton M90...
Since this one is bigger, i am fabricating an intake manifold that will hold the S/C
and i am trying to make it a very easy setup to install with minimum parts relocation like the alternator etc...
Parts are coming from vehicules at any local yards except for the intake.

I just started the build so it will be a while before i can try it.
But I will post pictures of the progress..

wow talk about needing updates..

i'm doing good, the car not so much.

I found a guy in kingston that does some pro work to redo my mani.
tapp & a lot of other shops have used him.
i dropped the car off oct15th was suppossed to be done Nov15th (yeah right)
but we know how the custom mod stuff can go.

so hopefully before x-mas i'll have it back with;
new manifold w/external wastegate. turbo's weight will be supported &
my rigid Downpipe will now have some flexpipe in it (very important)
also polished intake piping, etc.

then i'll need to worry about my 5000Km old leaking seals on my most awesome rebuild *mumble*
-same shop that made the mani-
im hoping most of it is leaking from the block/pan gasket.
ah, well at least i did need those piston rings, less smoke :D

^ this well recommended guy SHAFTED ME!
whole time he's telling me he's working on it! when it was in fact just sitting
on gravel for like 60+ days..

guy emailed me 3 days before x-mas: come get your car i can't work on it.
I had trouble getting ahold of this clown, but ended up getting my car back+ $100 for gas & travel/crap..
but my parking brakes had Seized so it needed to be flat bedded back to ottawa..
thankfully i had caa or that would've been like $500+

anyways finally found a guy in gat.. he redid everything (pics et cetera):
http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95930

my massive oil leak turned out to be (are you ready) a $2 O-ring for my dipstick!
yeah all my seals are great 100% *par-t*
kills me that this car was on so many hoists looked at by so many mech's,
but no one wiggled that loose dip stick in the pan, not even me.. *mumble*

oh so anyways my rebuild lasted 6 days (under 40hrs) then the turbo blew up :D

its at dudes shop getting a new turbo for free. I should get it back next week.
after oct 15th

so sly what hurdles have you encountered??
how hard or easy was the smt6 & megasquirt 'timing retarder' setup & tuning????
very curious..as all i have is the fueling part
