How would 3.15 affect the car? Sorry for the noob question but is that more acceleration and less top end? Also, would I be revving too high on the highway then??

A 3.15 in a 328 won't effect your highway driving at all.... should make a good increase on accel!

You will have slightly higher rpms on the highway, nothing I'd worry about. I used to have a 3.15 on my 328 for a while and it's much better then the stock 2.93. It's the same ratio that came in the 325's, and taller then the M3 ratio. You won't notice any increase in fuel consumption either, which is good.

What about for a 318is would it make much of a difference?

Won't be very good in a 318 as it has a 3.45 from the factory. Your acceleration will be slower but you'll be able to stay in lower gears for longer. It will also feel like the car has less torque. Ideal for a 318 is a 3.73:1 LSD.

So if this Diff was put on a 325, you would have no gearing change, just the added benefit of LSD?

geoff, correct. However, your e36 could very well have LSD already, or used to have it. I was under the impression most IS's did.

this won't fit a 318 without changing th rear subrame, at least i believe so, I'm pretty sure the 6 cyl diffs have a different case.
