That was the bigining of the end of my old E30 as well.
Drivers side frame snapped pinched all the wires comming in through the fire wall then lit on fire burning into a big clump of melted plastic and copper (fun fix just to get it running again). Fixed the frame by bolting two peices of 3" angle Iron on each side of the frame (sandwiched it) to get me through the winter while I shopped for a new car. Welding doesn't work well for some reason, something covering the steel that splatters overywere with no penetration  .

Man that blows big time. My buddy Jay had the same problem on his E36 323...took the dude over 7 hours to change the starter(at the mechanics)

I wasted 3 or 4 hours trying to get it off.. someone who's done would probably take 2..

But your E30 looks beautiful, so it's worth it! btw, my car sucks too.

When I changed my starter on my e30 I had to use 3 long rounded head exetentions. Go up over and beside the tranny from behind. Kind of a pain but it worked. I had to push the noise deadening material aside to get by.

good luck man

Jay has the M52 which is simply just a cu*t to work with for replacing the starter, M20 is way, way easier.

O/T. Jeff you have room at home to get my car about 2-3 feet off the ground? I need to get in there and remove my exhaust. Started last night but it started getting dark. Maybe you should go out and buy a hoist;)

have the van all cut up in peices taking all the room, so no not for awile but their are some ramps next door you can use some time this week if you like, the ramps arn't normal their neumatic and can can lift your car up about 20 feet off the ground if you like.
Works like a leaver.

Thanks Jeff.

I need the room to get in there with the wheel grinder for the bolts at the cat. Also I tried removing the bolts for the anchors at the muffler and one snapped, so i have to get in there with a drill.
