The cars sound identical to that incident but I don't they're the same - that happened around Mavis / Eglington which is a long way from Kitchener - unless Peel stretches that far west.

They said it if you are a caught street racing these are the consenquences they are not going to chase you down if you drive accordingly sorry for the ruin but its just my 0.02 $

Talk about inconsistent penalties. The Mercedes owner would be out $150,000, where a Civic owner would be out $1000 for the exact same crime.

I bet in the law somewhere that they can't enforce penalties like this.

I wonder what they would do if a Enzo & some other rare exotics were caught racing, would they demolish those collector cars as well, the automotive community would lose their minds

Exactly... this entire street racing thing will have a large effect on businesses if they become to strict with it.

Think about it..... strret racing isn't allowed, yet you can buy all this over the counter crap at canadian tire, and performance shops can turbo your car, etc.

If there are no cars to mod (aside ones purely made for track), there will be a lot of people out of jobs!

This is seriously a shame... Even if we're not allowed to go lets go and bring signs.

I can think of a dozen different ways this isn't right, legally or morally.

First off, it could be construed as cruel and unusual punishment, thereby breaching the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Secondly, the specific deterence achieved by crushing these cars doesn't outweigh the financial and emotional implications of seizing and crushing them (although i could see an argument for general deterence). Unfortunately, it's not as cut and dry as "He street raced, his car gets crushed." People in this country have rights and freedoms, these are used to protect us from unjust punishments such as this. Why doesn't somebody fight this? These aren't unsafe Hondas with poorly installed NOS and $30 All Season tires. They are expensive cars designed to function at these speeds, so why crush them?? They should at LEAST auction them off. Not crush them to spit in the face of the owners. That, to me, is disgraceful. Specially when our provincial government is running a defecit in the billions and our municipal police forces are crushing $100,000 cars to make a point. To hell with it all. Lets get a fund going to hire a decent lawyer to fight this shit. Or find one that's a car enthusiast and will do it for free.

^^ I agree with you, but they don't want cars like this on the road. That is why they are crushing them. Get a big crowd and huddle around the cars(protest) and handcuff yourself to the steering wheel etc..

Next thing you know anything producing over 200hp won't be allowed in the provice of Ontario.....ridiculous.

Anyone have the link to the story? It must have passed on the news.

Dalton Mcguinty is scared of fast cars. His mom says they're no good.

Stephen Harper feels no excitment... whatsoever. So he doesn't like cars either.

Come on! We need some car guys in government :)

Time to just lease vehicles. Then you truly don't own them, and the leasing company will be pissed right off when they destroy their property.

Hmm... a few questions for you Ant.

When was your cousins friend caught street racing?
Which offence was this?
How long was his car impounded for?
Was his license suspended, or is he serving maximum jail time?

So what's the news? Sunday is coming up.

Now why would they crush these cars on a Sunday on a long weekend?? Maybe your cousin is taking you for ride, and we are all in the backseat?

Guess history really does repeat itself.....

This is just like back in the early 70's when the horsepower wars were going crazy, and the government became more restrictive against emmisions and caused muscle cars liek the Vettes, to turn into pussy mobiles!

Sorry guys i just came back from Guelph and was talking to the owners of the cars. I also talked to the officer and he stated that this is not a public event and that only the owners of the cars would be there. No one else. And he made that very clear to me.
