what are the signs of a bad head gasket on an m20 motor? I fear the worst but just want to verify the symptoms before i replace.
thanks in advance

Two big signs are oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil.
If you look in your coolant overflow and it looks like a chocolate milkshake, you've got a lot of work ahead of you.

than i think i'm in luck... cause i dont have that, thank god, but i still cant figure out where coolant is leaking from. is there anywhere else other than the hoses and rads where coolant could leak from?

That doesn't mean the head gasket isn't still pooched. Are you losing coolant?
Make sure you run the car for at least 30 minutes to ensure the lower rad hose is used. Seriously, it can take this long to get fully hot (the temp gauge doesn't reflect this for sure). Then have someone rev it up and look underneath for drips, etc.
Otherwise, look to the exhaust for white / sweet smelling smoke. When coolant burns it smells sickly sweet.

did that... smoke is fine, but it does drip... it hits something than comes off the A/C compressor... i cant see where it is dripping from at all.
i've got a spare head gasket for the m20, brand new in packaging let me know if you need one.
