Excuse the labeling of the pics, I have had kids looking at my website and asking questions after, so thought it best doing it for them.
All this came about because one kid actually did a science project and used some of my info and pics for it, he got 97% so all his buddies wanted to see my site :D

looks good Striker is that a custom setup?... is that a wideband o2 sensor? i've heard that they are best placed 3ft. down the dowpipe and @ a 10degree angle up to get the best reading possible, having it so close to the hotside of a turbo can affect the readings i've been told...

It's our custom built kit for the BMW e30 with the m20 engine.
Makes sense but my O2 sensor worked fine. You can see more of the project on my older webiste
http://www.torkndork.com/bmw_325is_turbo.htm

Now working on the 3.5L m30 engine to drop into the e30 and then turbocharge it. :)

Thanks Dude, that was jsut a quick set up to test the m20 kit we created, the m30 turbochrged swap will be really nice and clean. I will have some more bling to it, powdercoated valve cover, chromed piping for the turbo, ceramic coated turbo manifold etc.

I want to make it both very pratical and a bit of a show piece as well.

Turbo with no cooling whatsoever? Isnt it kinda dangerous?

Depends on boost you are running and what stage. I was running close to 10 PSI with no probles non intercooled as a stage one app. Our stage two would have an intercooler and stage three full ignition and fuel management with data logging.

Many turbo kit manufacturers have their kits and upgrades this way. it does two things, meet the needs for perople with different financial levels and various performance needs as well.
We are getting the intercooler cores a bit cheaper now so might build a few smaller intercoolers and add it to stage one kits for people wanting stage one.

10psi non-intercooled is risky business man, what are your egts like? is the car tuned? what kind of fuel management are you using? generally speaking 5psi is the max I've heard of guys running with no intercooler setup, then from 6-15psi you can use a Talon/Eclipse SMIC without worry of heatsoaking it and then from 8-40psi+ FMIC are used in varying sizes. I'm in no way trying to tell you how to build your setup, but rather just trying to help keep another boosted car alive *th-up* .

Hey Bubsy, we boosted to 10 PSI before having any detonation issues, we were not running at 10 PSI, brought it down to 7PSI.

I am really busy today so can't respond in detail. I had 2 extra boost injectors supplying extra fuel with an EIC seen here http://sdsefi.com/eic.html which is a micrpporcesed Extra Boost Injector Controller.
Please go to my website for the details. We were running within very safe A/F ratio limits at 9 PSI but were telling all interested parties to run at 7PSI

I was doing this project with one of the best turbo experts here, he has a shop and supllies all the other turbo shops with turbos and accessories.
He is an icon in the VW turbo world building turbocharged race cars and was helping me with the BMW kit development.

Our m20 stage 1 kit was a success and now I am onto the e34 m30 for my e30. Have a friend in TO delivering 350 RWHP on his e34 m30 right now (daily driver) on a 300,000 KM plus stock e34 and now rebuiling a complete performance m30 for his car, so taking allot of notes from him. I am now rebuilding the m30 in prep for my turbocharged e30.

I have started a new website for my all of my BMW projects including the m30 turbocharged swap and will be documenting everything over time www.turboready.com The website is far from being what I want but all I can do for now as time is so scarce.

Cheers and thanks for your input *wave*

8.8:1 compression helps too.

8.8:1 compression helps too.

We are not talking about too much boost, we are talking about hot air going straight into the engine without any type of cooling.

If you look at 745i Turbo
It has even lower compression ratio, 4.4psi of boost and it has an intercooler.
Running 10psi turbo with no cooling whatsoever is suicidal i think.

I was going over your dyno pics. You put down 139 hp to the wheels. was that on the stock motor or the turbo motor? If that's on the turbo motor I'd call that a BIG failur.
BTW I'm running 9psi on my M20 motor with stock internals and its putting down 270hp to the wheels

It was 139 RWHP STOCK, read please bro. :D Never got a chance to dyno after the FI setup, but I am sure I was around high 200's as well. I had no traction between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears, spinning wheels right through. It was late October when I was done and it snowed soon after so never got a chance to play with the 2.5 m20

I am now rebuilding the car from the bottom up doing a 5 lug e36 318ti suspension swap with GC Coilovers. I will try to get 245's fitted at the back for traction for the e34 3.5L turbocharged motor.

Not much right now but after im done building her she should put down some sweet power+exhaust notes

stock jspec 4agze (supercharged) 16v DOHC 165hp@6psi
plans : either run dual set up (td04 / s/c) with hks oversized pulley to run max boost on s/c (10psi stock s/c)or single turbo, greddy boost controler, custom manifold/full race exhaust (exit out liscene plate), replace top mount intercooler to side mount by air ducting.

I don't have the details on full specs...but its a Holset WH1C that orignally came with a 16cm^ exhaust housing with an internal wastegate...but I changed the housing to an 18cm^ and I'm gonna be using an external wastgate with it...I planning on making around 400-450 whp...I think it shouldn't have any problem doing that.

The point in turbocharging a stock engine is you don't need aftermarket forged
pistons/rods/crank with streetable power. :)

Tune is *everything*. If you're not tuned you're not getting nearly the benefit out of the turbo, and you're running the risk of damaging something.

Who can / will tune it depends on what engine management software you're using.

Hello! I am following the forum for two months and now recently joined the forum because it seems me interesting * informative.

Guess I can officially check in here. Not done by a long shot but started tuning the E30. HUGE THANKS TO NOTORIOUS VR, very patient and intelligent tuner, don't hesitate to contact him for your tuning needs. Unlike many other tuners who are married to one EMS, or throw in the towel if your car has any issues, his knowledge and experience covers everything needed to get your engine running right.

648whp at 18psi so far, hoping for around 800 all said and done:

WOW big d, i didn't have a clue about such a project in the works!!!

What are your plans for the body of the car? Widebody of some sort?

BigD

Thanks guys. No widebody for me, going to try to weld crescent fender flares to cover the wheels. Like this guy, but not as fancy (no compound curves) and... wider:
