View Full Version : HELP! 525i won't start (oil pressure?)

Hope someone here can help out. My mom's 525i won't start... the engine turns but does not ignite (battery is ok). Since it was real low on gas and its pretty damn cold I figured it was a fuel-supply issue but the car indicted "Oil Pressure." Since my mom says she never saw the warning before I am beginning to think its the cause of the problem. The manual says to check oil level (which I did - it was fine) and then 'see dealer'. My mom had an oil change in October, the oil seemed quite pasty to me but it may just have been because I am used to synthetic and as I said it was really cold. If it makes any difference the engine has over 200,000km on it but has never given us any problems.
She is going to buy a 02-04 passat from VW in the next days and I was hopping to get the 525 as a winter car so any repairs will likely fall on me:(

Any thoughts... really don't want to have it towed.

hhhmmm, i wonder if it's the crankcase vent valve is the problem.

What year 525i?
If 91 or newer it could be the oil pump gear nut has failed. It's a problem on a few M50's.

Its a 92 I think... maybe 94. Is there anything I can do to find out if it may be either of those problems?

Car came back to life today.... Thanks for your help guys. It must have been the cold... maybe a flooding issue as well.
