I am pickin up a 528e from my unlce on friday.. Paying 1500 bucks no rust runs perfect. The only concern I have with it is the ugly longaated bumpers it comes with and the asshole of an exhaust... Will bumpers from other models fit the car or is there anything available in the aftermarket?

As far as I can tell there are aftermarket ones available or you have the option of ordering euro ones right from BMW. As far as other models go I don't believe any will fit except maybe from another E12 or E28. The 7 series being a larger car, and the 6 being based on the 7 as well as the 3 being smaller. Good luck with the purchase though. Can't go wrong with a classic Bimmer. Post some pics when you get it.

hey hey another e28 owner. welcome! As for the ugly bumpers, the euros are the way to go. Somewhat expensive alternative but one that looks oh so sweet. I was informed the stealerships are still carrying them, but there are some available through ebay once in awhile. might wanna sign up at www.mye28.com and read through the archives where there is tons of e28 info.

I dont think bumpers off of anything other than an e28 will fit. I looked at a set of euro bumpers off an e12, but they were not going to fit.

good luck.

thanks, ive been going for the whole M5 shadowline theme, ive only gotten the bumpers and some of the chrome trim actually painted. the trim around the tailights and the windows is just black tape (until i paint the rest in the spring). I got the spoiler off an 535is, and now just looking to find the front spoiler w/ fogs. The wheels are 17'' Rondell 58s. 17x8.5, i like the way they look on the e28. other options were BBS Rx, or style 5's.

what year is your 528e?

I wish they were all mine. Im only 17, living at home. the parents own all of them except the 1985 528e with the M30 which is mine, and the M3 is owned by a friend of the family who lent it to us for the weekand. I have gotten to drive them all but i spend most of my time in my e28, and the 733i which is our winter beater.

ohh a chevy guy eh? theres a 55' chevy stepside in our garage here aswell, maybe that apeals to you a bit more :D

Welcome!

Here you go...a little long but hopefully informative.

www.mye28.com is the way to go...a bunch of e28 addicts that are very helpful.

There are no other BMW model bumper that you can swap onto your car without some serious fabrication and then refinishing.
You can buy Euro bumpers through the dealership as someone else mentioned.
Pros: If they come in damaged, they can always order another part, and you don't have to worry about the shipping costs, duties, etc...
Cons: They can be pricey.
ProsII: They look soooo much better than the North American benches on the cars now.

BMP Design (www.bmpd.com) has a set of fiberglass front and rear bumper covers for a reasonable price, but then again, it's not OE looking if that is what you're after.

Low cost alternative: Remove the bumper shocks and fabricate another mounting system (find a similar diameter steel tube and weld some mounting plates and add some riv-nuts). You can then compress the bumper towards the cars and cut back the filler strips for a slimmer look.
Here's a link to a similar discussion. http://digest.net/bmw/archive/v9/msg04117.html

Check out http://www.m535i.org/officers/ra/frame.html and click "bodywork" for Euro Bumper mod information.

Also check out my Album (http://photobucket.com/albums/v627/egrbgr/BMW%20Pilgrimage%202005/). These were taken at last years BMW Pilgrimage. You'll find some variations of bumpers from M-Tech (Ted's M535i), Euro(Sia's Alpina), and BMP Design (John's black E28 with Style 5's). This should give you an idea as to what direction you may want to go.

Now that you're cruising into the E28 territory, you may want to take the trip in May with Ted and friends (except me *sad* ) to Fiverfest. I hear it is absolutely awesome.

There are some local events throughout the summer for Bimmers...BMWCCA Trillium chapter concours and picnic, Bimmercruise, and the Pilgrimage (approx. 1 hr. out of town, but a fun drive) Keep an eye out in the events section of this forum and you'll see when they come up.

I have an original spoiler in very good condition off of an e28 535i if you are interested. The discoloration on the rubber is really a wet spot from the snow I removed just before taking the pic.
