I have been contemplating that for the past 5 months now and no matter how tempting it is i'm not going to do that. This car is 100% standard and I intend to keep it that way ;)

No, it already has a trailer hitch, so NOT 100% stock!:P You might as well go ahead with the clears! *th-up*

remove the hitch unless you really really need it and put some clears...it would look sweeter.
and maybe stock mirrors.

Don't ruin it with clear corners, looks great as it is.

Yes it's a 6 speed. The mirrors are stock. I plan on removing the hitch but first need to get a new rear bumper.

Thanx for the comments guys. Will post some more pics as soon as the hitch is gone.

and yes BMW South Africa badged these with the M on the rear. We only got 70 of these here all of which were Manuals.

Mirrors are stock? You sure?.. They look like M3 replica's for the e34??

I say keep the hitch it would protect you a little if anyone was to rear-end you. (Not in all cases) But small parking lot bumps where the car is around the same height.

Good point but the car never gets parked elsewhere than my garage.

So you have a Canadian spec car in South Africa?

Only 32 ever made?

Wow... thats pretty rare.

I guess canada was not the only country to get M540's. Great lookin car.

and yes, I would go clearn corners. You can buy them from BMW so you would be keepting the car 100% original BMW.

Was the Engine replaced to alusil block just curious? E34 540 manuals are shexshy. I be you it would destroy G35 and TLs .

I never knew that. Do you perhaps have a picture of the original BMW clear corners?

No the engine has not been replaced. We rarely had that problem here in South Africa with the nikasil blocks so BMW didn't even extend the warranty for us

see post 14. And it's not Canadian spec. It's South African spec. I just posted the link to show that the mirrors were actually stock.

There are a few differences between the US, Canadian and Australian versions. And the same applies to the South African version.

Little is known about the South African version and most dealerships don't even know it exists.

The VIN numbers ran from BB82000 - BB82071

Wow! I never knew how rare those were.

Looks great - any interior shots?

Oh - and I vote for keeping the ambers, I prefer them over clears.

Ivan, only North American 540's had the nikalsil problem, cuz our gas here is shitty.

Here's a pic of another M540, and as you can see, it came with the M3 style mirrors also. Canadian M540's also came with 18" M parallels instead of the throwing stars.

Naude, the clear corners on my car are all original BMW parts. (I try to keep the car as original as possible)

I think so too. In Europe that problem is unknown. Jeez I think if you got E34 530/540 ,just fill up at Sunoco.

Gamite

well apparently the gas is much better these days, and the problems do not exist any longer.
