Since all the M3's in Ontario/Quebec are such beaterz, I had to go all the way to friggin' California for this one ... it arrives in about 3 weeks. Merry X-mas to me *par-t*

Very nice, why didn't you just look in Vancouver, we have nice M3's there and you wouldn't have to worry about duty, or the fact that it's in MPH

Omg *mw*

that interior color is Saweeet.

Yes ... it's going to suck looking at it in the garage until May :(

As far as plans: put in gas. Drive! The car is perfect, with all tasteful mods already done. This will be my summer steet car, and I will try to keep it as close to perfect as possible.

Yes, for like $30k! Stupid prices in western Canada.

can't you change the country code or something?
making the speedo acurate for kph, once a kph speedo is installed?

It is accurate for kph ... it's got kph in smaller number on the dial. Who looks at the speedo anyway? :moon:

The car has been extensively, but tastefully modded. Here is a list off the top of my head:

ZKW with HID
OE Clears all around
SSR GT-3 18" rims (also comes with the OE DS IIs)
SS exhaust (DTM style ... not sure I like this)
ECIS intake
UD pulleys
SSK (ron strygar)
Dinan ecu flash
5-series steering wheel audio controls
Alpine 7998, XM receiver, JL Stealthboxes in rear deck, Alpine amp .. don't remember the fronts (DynAudio maybe?), but there is an 8" in the kick panel, and mids/tweets in the doors
Motorsport moldings
Konis and Eibach suspension
Euro floating rotors (cryo treated by porterfiled)
Oil temp, Oil Pressure and Volt guages
e46 arm rest

The ONLY thing I wish it had is power seats, but really, I can't complain! I paid $19,500 USD for it, and it'll cost about $1500 USD to get it shipped.

A few more pics. Can you tell that I'm excited? :)

Nice! Congrats.

Are you expecting a problem/hastle with customs re:duty, safety, etc?
I've always wondered what the duty would be on bringing a car up from the States.

Just outta curiousity.... what kinda duties are you gonna have to pay once it gets to the border?!
I've always wondered if it would better to get an M from the states since they considerably cheaper.

And is this a 3.0L or 3.2L? What year?

Beautiful car! Even more beautiful interior.

Perhaps you can help others out by describing in detail the steps you took to bring this car over. :)

It would be a great sticky with first hand information about importing a car into Ontario. *angel*

Thanks for the thumbs-up, guys. Really looking forward to next spring!

This is actually the second M3 I'm bringing from the US ... my 95 track car came from New York, but that does not really count, since it was never registered in Ontario, and never will be. I already contributed to a thread in the general forum about the process ... it might actually be stickied already :)

For this one, it's a 96 (OBDII, 3.2L), so they are admissible without mods (you can check on www.riv.ca), except for DRL, which it already has. Here is what I'm expecting to happen:

- car is shipped to a customs warehouse in Ottawa ... shipping company takes care of getting it across the border

- When I pick up the car, I have to pay GST (7%), duty (6.1%), A/C tax ($100), RIV fee ($190), then I get the car. The value for all these taxes is either the sale price, or the Canadian Black Book value, whichever is higher. Customs guys are not easy to fool in this regard, so don't try to pass off a totally bogus bill of sale (of course, some wiggle room is always there :D )

- Bring it to Crappy Tire for the federal inspection (they check DRL, km/h on the speedo, things like that) ... costs about $70 and takes 10 minutes

- Car must pass an Ontario safety check and E-Test

- Once all that is done, you can get an Ontario ownership for the car, and get it plated (where you will pay 8% PST). Done!

So basically, it's no worse than buying from a dealer in Canada, except for the 6.1% duty (since the car is not made in North America). In the long run, still a WAY better deal, for a car that has never seen snow or salt :-) Plus the exchange rate these days is just stupid good!

The previous owner did some fancy electronic work and took apart the alpine remote and wired it into the controls. The wheel is a 99 M3 wheel, with the added controls.

Nice car and great interior!

Yes, there are a variety of different moulding badges you can buy from the dealership (M3, ///M, Motorsport, Clubsport, etc)

I have the Motorsport ones like ScotcH's new car...
