I have all seasons on with about 50% tread left.... I dont' think they're gonna cut it for the winter...

FWD car... is it okay to just buy 2 winter tires and keep the all seasons in the rear? I won't be losing the back end too much or will I ?

NO! http://tinypic.com/fw2ccp.gif

Seriously, the safest way to go is winters on all 4 corners. It has to do with the "rubber" compounds in the tires amongst other things. Sure, it'll cost you an extra $200 maybe, but it's much cheaper than spinning out into a ditch and breaking things.

You should get winters on all four corners.

Although, to be honest... on our FWD car, we put winters only on the fronts last season and the car still outperformed my RWD bimmer with winters all around in both handling and acceleration on both snow, and ice.

You're best off going winters on all four corners to maintain the balance and stability of your vehicle though.

It's not recommend, but I've done 2 winter tires on the front and two good all-season tires on the rear for some winter cars. You have to be careful.

It's best to get 4 Winter tires.

Cheap Thrills in Milton has 195/65/14 Pirelli Snow Tires for $300 tax included.
I just go some for my car.

It was $300 (taxes included) for 4 Pirelli Snow. 195/65/14. They bought about 600 of these tires. I thought I would pass on the info.

I have an extra set of steel rims. Iíll get them mounted in a few days for $10 per tire.

The cheapest I found winter steel rims was CanadianTire, and Walmart (actually they were cheaper than CT). $40-$50 each. I lucked out last year when Acura had steel wheels cheaper than both. Not bad for a dealer! It might be worth calling your local dealer to see if they have any winter rims on sale.

I got them installed by them for $340.

One thing to watch out for is that they will mix up the stock - ie, one of them was from a different lot or maybe year. It was the same model but the markings were different. Not a big deal but I'm sure that if I had caught it there they would have made them all the same if they could.

The other thing is that they're unidirectional so make sure they're installed with the arrows in the right direction.

And the other thing is don't expect any warranty on paper. Strictly cash on the barrelhead, out the door. I heard them say they're selling them on eBay too.
