what is too big?.. the hub, or the rim center bore?

if the rim is too big (which is likely the case) you will need some hub-centric rings to mount your wheels properly.

That is wierd, they should fit! Unless he was using spacers...

Is there a big difference between the two bores? It's usually a snug fit and if some rust or other crap gets on your hub (or the wheel) it may prevent the wheel from sliding on.
