View Full Version : e36 Cab Power Mods

So, as I have mentioned before, I just recently picked up a 96' 318iC and I don't know much about these cars, but I'm here to learn as much as I can.
Here's my questions... its sort of broad, I know.
So, what power upgrades are there for the M43 engine. I doubt I would consider doing any forced induction - I would rather keep the engine naturally aspirated.
So, who ever knows alot of tech about the M43 engine; please tell me everything there is to know about it, and what options I have for bringing the power up.
Thanks, and sorry again for being a n00b!

The best guy to answer this is Slowerd (Ryan).. He has an e30 318i, but it uses the M42 engine.
Personally, I didn't bother modding my 318i engine.. I have a 325 engine ready to swap in there. It's going to cost me $800 to drop it in, but for the power upgrade I can't really complain.

$800 for the work?
How much was the engine?

$800 for the swap, which in my case also includes bolting on a turbocharger kit (that I also already have.)
The engine was a 'donation' for me. But they'll typically run you around $1200 with trade in of your old engine for something with decently low km.

as a note, you have an M42 (95 and older) or a M44 engine (96+). M43's were the eurospec 8 valve engines.

oh. shiz! i just saw on bmwinfo.com that my car is listed as an M43. oops! so, if my car is a 96, do i have the M44?

Yep, M44B19 I guess it would be. (1.9L)

that is correct. u know any more specs on that engine? HP, torque, etc?
and back to my original question - what power mods can be done to this engine, without a turbo or supercharger?
