Considering e39 as a next car.
I know M5 is still out of my 'insurance rate' but I am wondering how do the 540i M sport package ones rate?
http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/details.aspx?vlotid=53754&adid=4796656

Is there also 530i M sport package (apperance wise at least?) Esp front spoiler.

Other than 530i and 540i M sports packages did any other model offer M sports package (ie 528i etc?)

What to look for what to avoid when 5spd or 6spd is considered.

Comments, tips from owners, enthusiast welcome.

My insurance is nothing special - $125/mo - 540i-6.

I love my car and it has been an absolute joy to drive. I have experienced minimal problems.

yes you can get the 530i with the M Sport Pkg (not Sport Pkg though) the M sport pkg has M Sport suspension, M-tech kit, 6spd manual m sport seats (i think they are m not just sport ones cound be mistaken) M Sport steering wheel and M Parellel wheels also they have the high gloss showdow line which replaces the stock crome trim around the windows. the one thingk tho about a 540i with the m pkg vs. a 530i with m pkg as i remember is the steering is different, the 540i has rack and pinion and the 530 i want to say has reciprocating ball steering not 100% sure of that but i know the handleing on the 540 is slightly better due to the rack and pinion steering. good luck man, you won't regret it im sure. i should have got the '01 that i was looking at b4 the E60 but oh well such is life, plz post pics of the new car if you get it so i can cry :D lol

You got it reversed. The 530 has the better rack-and-pinion steering, the 540 has the recirculating-ball. It doesn't matter what sport package each model has, every 530 has rack and p and every 540 has the recirc ball.

Some people claim that the 530/528 handles better because of the rack and pinion steering and the lesser weight of the smaller motor.

sorry to go off topic here, but what does M-suspension include on a E39? lower springs?

A suspension drop and it's stiffer. I think the sway bars are larger and you get
bigger brake package.

I was receiving the Bavarian Autosport catalogs in the mail but for the longest time (ever since e30 is gone) I wasn't flipping through it.

This morning I noticed they also sell the M5 apperance package 'kits'.
Rear Apron $550 US
Front M5 Bumper with foglights $1200 US
Rims $600 ish (per rim).

So, if I was to pick up a nice 528 for example and put these on, that would somewhat work as well.

What would be the top of the line trim wise 528 e39 like sport seats 6spd?

Also what is the best e39 model to date? I remember the previous version 5 series (e34) the 535i manual was a gem of that generation. Something similar in e39 class?

Here's the quotes I got from my insurance

1997/1998 540i 6speed or auto
200/CND per month
third party only

I pay 187 right now for my 90' 525i

If I were you I would get a 2000+ model from what I heard most of the problems has been fixed.

"The Personal"

I have some group discount with an engineering society. TD/Meloche Monnex also has similar rates for PEO members.
