last time I heard Rick from RT Motorsport had just purchased an e39 540i which he said he was going to supercharge. That was about 1 year ago and never did followup with him to see if he did it.

Talked to Rick a couple of weeks ago and he hasn't done it yet.

To supercharge a 540 is waaaaayy cheaper than doing one for the M5.
How's it going Fern?
Was it you that bought my M5 grills?

a SC e39 540 would be sooo sick, think it would put down as much as an M5? e39 540i, somethin like 280hp ( i think ). and the e39 M5 is 400hp or close to i believe. would a SC gain you 100hp?

ESS kit gives you about 407HP

and that ESS kit is just a bolt on S/C using stock internals, with some engine work you can get over 500hp(not recommanded with auto tranny)

I'd like to get a ride in a SC'ed 540 ... or take one for a short spin, a couple of accelerations at least ... just to get a feel of what you get if you shell out 10 geez....

I also wonder what difference in sound a SC makes...

DavidM5 - well VF came out with a kit for M5 ... it costs $10000 US. and you get 500+ horses with it. :)
and ... I still want to hear your Tubi exhaust :) *th-up*

Ive never ridden in a E39. They look like super fun cars to drive, and tons of power.. but with a S/C damn that would be fast.

Paul - when/where ?!?!?!?!?!??!
that is one @#$%^& ride .... :)

e24_635csi - e39 is "the best all-arround car ever built" in my opinion. If I ever sell my e39 540 it will only be to replace it with e39 M5, unless I go broke and have to sell it because of money reasons LOL. Whoever I let drive my 540 at work became a BMW fan on the spot.

I went down to Michigan to pick up some stuff from his house and he was really cool and took me to the dealer where they were working on it. Unfortunatley it wasn't driveable or else I would have gotten a ride :( But he is a really cool guy and that car is even cooler lol Really well built and that blower is HUGE

Hey Paul, do you know what blower Josh is using on the M5?

I'm actually kinda surprised that no aftermarket company has come out with a twin screw S/C for the 540i/M5

Maybe one day Ill just have to try and test drive one. I love my E28 535i, but it jsut cant compare to an E39... other than i probally get more looks than you guys. because most people who see my car for the first time go... "thats a bmw?"

I had a few friends who didnt think to highly of bmw, and a friend of the family let us borrow his e46 m3 for the weekand. No matter who rode in that car when you got out of it you were smiling for at least and hour

well, probably because there's a good reason for it. 540 can't take boost very well as the bottom end will have reliability issues. Its an all aluminum block which means that after some time you will have blow-by occuring unless you put iron sleves inside the cylinders. VAC has done something similar. After that twinscrew, turbo, or s/c is not a problem.

With the M5 you have other problems. First of, it has 2 mass airflow sensors. You can still go SC ala Dinan or RMS which combines the two intakes into one. AA on the other hand has a really nice solution. Twin blowers. *uzi*

I remember you telling me that Tom, that's why once I plan on installing the S/C on my 540i I'm going to tear the motor apart & rebuild it from the ground up, install iron sleeves, piston, rods, do up the heads etc.. going to make the motor for the S/C, I'm going to find another M62 motor so I can build the motor in the garage, just need lots of $$$$

c'mon Quack ... for that kinda $$$ you can buy yourself an M5.... :)

Quack
10-27-2005, 07:55 PM
that is true, but having a S/C 540 done the way I want it to be would definitely be unique, and it would be totally customize to my liking & it would have enough power to smoke M5's
