i haven't tried one yet but I 've read the diy a couple times. It sounds like the hardest part is fabricaring/modifying a pin to fit the connector behind the cluster. Overall it sounds easily doable, but I'd want to try on mine first. Maybe after I can help you out if you still need it.

OBC = on board computer. The thingy that displays temperature, time, and performs various calculations based on the information fed to it from the instrument cluster.

Ive owned 2 bmws in my life time and im only 17 so im not a nOOb bud, n e ways, i sold mine 11 button obc for $150 which was too good a deal to pass off, but now im left with a spare 7 button obc that i had from before, and nowwww i just learned that you would need a different setup or more parts to do the 18 button swap... :(

Euro... who called you a noob?

Anyway, yes you need a second harness and lots of wire tapping to do the 18 button conversion.

Will the 18 button work with only the one harness for the 11 button...obviously without the extra features found on the 18....

Yes. It will work like an 11-button. Extra features will not work.
