I'm looking at a 328is with about 220,000 Km and there are no service records. How much life would be left in a car like this?

Thanks, Jordan

that engine lasts basically forever, no kidding... make sure to see how it runs before you get into something you might not want.. you might have to service other non engine things .. but engine will last you very long

Yeah, make sure to get a compression test on the engine... otherwise its just regular maintenance stuff...

Thanks, that gives me a better idea. What would a car like this be worth, with 220 K and in good condition, leather interiour, etc? (approx)

What year is it? does it have any options? e.g. sports package, lux. package, etc...

Probably around 10-12k ... the milage is high enough to bring the price down.

1997 328is, sports package 16" wheels, a little rust on fender door and hood, interior is almost mint..

Another question, what are the main things to look for, like headgasket being done, timing belt, are these major problems?

Headgastket only goes if it overheats ... a compression check will show if it's goodf now. There is no timing belt on these engines, so no worries. The cooling system is an issue ... a complete overhaul (rad, pump, thermo housing, hoses) is about $500, and well worth it if you don't know the history. Bushings, especially the rear trailing arms and shock mounts can be issues. Any good shop should check these.

I'll tell you what my car cost in June of 2004 for reference.

1995 325is
- M Sports Package
- Extra set of Winters
- 260,000kms
=$8,800

Depends on oil changes. An engine that the oil has been changed regularly will go for a long time. If the oil has been a good quality synthetic, evn longer.
