At first glance it appears the BMW 5 Series models seen here wearing a slightly different front bumper depict the upcoming facelift. But in actuality they're test mules for BMW's upcoming new engines particularly the inline six cylinder turbo. Set to debut in the 335i Coupe (E92) sometime this winter the modified front bumper is designed to accommodate the new engines with increased airflow. The 5 Series will receive a minor facelift much like its predecessor, the E39 5 series. But it's safe to say that these 5 Series models are not it.

I think they need something to fill the gap between 330 and M3. Its almost gonna be a 150hp difference.

there's suppose to be a big difference, that's what makes a M-car unique, if the HP were only 25 HP apart then what's the point in buying a M

I remember reading about this engine on the BMW site, its based off the engine technology used in the Paris-Dakar X5 - uses the two turbos that operate in different stages. Results in a really powerful and fuel efficient engine.

Isn't that what you get if it's a S - like Acura "Type S" ??

yeah, I guess, but the price difference isn't that much as a non "Type S"

Yea, but you have to think about the market, you lose out on a large buyers market.

550 vs m5 is a 140hp difference right now, and I thnink thats good.

335 gonna be a 3.0l Turbo and rumors are 330hp.
So the defference gonna be only 70hp, and being a turbo engine, with couple of mods its gonna be quicker than m3.

Not liking this new turbo idea.

I wonder how easy the manifold will be to adapt to m50/m52's.
