I did a search but couldn't find anything. I need to do a oil change soon, so I figure I might as well put in the right oil for winter in now. What do you guys recommend? I have a 96/318i

I looked up the info and asked the techs and parts guys at work and they said to use 10w40 in the winter and you can use 20w50 in the summer and warmer mouths of the year. I use to use synthetic oil in my older car and it work great all year but in the winter stoped my car from ticking in the cold weather at start up.

General rule of thumb, you want to use a thinner oil in the winter, so it doesnt turn into sludge, and in the summer use a thicker one. 10W30/10W40 is ideal for the summer on a stock 6 cylinder, so pretty much a 0W30 for the winter should be ok.
