BMW bringing seven new models to Canada

BMW's Canadian lineup expands for 2006 with seven new models ranging from Spartan to spectacular. They will begin arriving next month.

The most dramatic will be the latest iteration of the thunderous M5 sedan, complete with a massive V10 engine and seven-speed, Formula One-inspired sequential manual gearbox. It's got a lot of performance, and will cost a lot of money: $115,000, not counting available options like head-up display, ventilated seats and a full Merino leather interior.

At the other end of the spectrum is an entry-level version of the new 3-Series that debuted earlier this year. Replacing the previous generation's 320i, the 2006 323i sedan will come standard with a 174-horsepower, six-cylinder engine, six-speed manual transmission and a $35,200 base price.

Other additions to the 3-Series line include three all-wheel-drive models: 325xi and 330xi sedans at $42,900 and $50,500 respectively and the $44,400 325xiT station wagon.

Also new to the lineup are the 550i sedan and 650i coupe. Both are powered by the same 360-horsepower, 4.8-litre V8 engine. The 550i will list for $78,600 and the 650i for $101,500.

Unfortunately, the new model year won't bring BMW's excellent diesel engines or the compact 1-Series, both of which are available overseas.

"The 1-Series is seriously under consideration for Canada," BMW Canada product communications specialist Rob Dexter said. "While dates aren't being discussed yet, it could show up here before the end of the decade."

Likely be one of their best selling cars, and the best they can do is 'end of the decade?'

MB is coming out with the 'A' Class, Audi is out with the A3. BMW has no car in that market segment. The 1 series are hot sellers in oversea markets, don't know why BMW wouldn't bring the 1 series into Canada?

I would rock a diesel 1 series.

Well...they are undoubtly reluctant to bring the 1 series after the craptacular sales performance of the 318ti.

They originally didn't bring the 318ti over here, but since it did so well in europe, they decided to try...anyways...right car, wrong timing...oh well.

I think another real problem BMW is having is with MINI, which would be a direct competitor and right smack in the 1 series price range if it comes over here.

I still don't get why BMW won't bring over a 330d. I've love one.

Because of the inferior North American Diesel. any diesel from Europe is very unlikely until Canadian regulations will change for better quality diesel by 2007

I still don't get why BMW won't bring over a 330d. I've love one.

yea the 130d or w/e it is is sick, 258lb/ft torque mmmmmm :D

but yea they need to bring up the quality of the diesel before i see them bringing it. saw a new B class the other day, looked pretty cool jet black mmmm.

and about the mini i could see that as a major factor i mean since sales of them are pretty good last i heard they may not see the need to bring the 1 over. too bad cause i for one wouldn't mind rocking one *th-up* and yea i agree with thinair a 330d or even the 535d mmmm that would be sick. doubt it will happen though. guess time will tell

The 1 Series is a difficult topic. You can't compare it to the A3 because the A3 has more space and costs less than what the 1 Series would. Also, the 1 Series is not doing as well as many had hoped... yet. Wait for a few new variants to come out over the next few years :D

YA THINAIR, also in Europe you can order 330d with M package just like 330 perfomance pack.
