if they haven't been replaced in the last 4 yrs... replace them.

What is that based on?? I've never heard of a 4 year fuel injector replacement policy. My e34 is 13 years old and it's still on the stock injectors.

I drove a 733 from 1988 to 2004 on the original injectors without a problem, and I doubt they were changed before I bought it.

I don't think the injectors in my M5 have been changed yet either, and they are 12 years old. They work perfectly, but they are >4 years old.

I've never heard of the 4 year replacement deal on injectors....

I find this odd as well. Out of all the cars I'v had and all the wrecks friends have had I'v only once had to change injectors in a car. 1988 Fox with 300K + on it.
Even then it was only the seals around the injector that was bad.

In my opinion injectors last a lot longer then 4 years. What makes you think its the injectors ? You can have them tested but I'm not sure where. They test the spray pattern and time the injector pulse to make sure they are not sticky or staying open too long/ too short.

...leak when closed due to mechanical wear
...spray more or less then the specs are due to mechanical wear / clogged filter
...spray pattern changes do to residue buildup and wear

if someone ever dicide to replace 200k+ injectors with a new (or good matched) set the difference will be noticeable BIG TIME.

I tested mine M30 injectors at 260k - one was leaking, spray pattern was bad on all of them, only half of them were within the spec of 185cc/min +/-10%. Replacement is coming soon from ebay.com (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fse arch.dll%3Fcgiurl%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fcgi.ebay.co m%252Fws%252F%26fkr%3D1%26from%3DR8%26satitle%3D80 00645626%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1&item=8000645626)
