I just bought a 316i -91 sedan, with a bad engine. It´s leaking exhaustfumes into the enginecoolant, so it´s either the headgasket, or more probably a cracked head. For me it´s more economical to just put in another engine.

As the M43 is a much more improved engine, I was thinking of getting one.

Has anyone done such a swap? What concerns is there involved? Does the wiring harnesses match? Anything of help would be highly appreciated.

we don't have the 316i here in North America. But I do know that it is a direct swap, wiring harness and everything on OBD1 will fit. You're right though, most likely a cracked head.

Thanks.

Found a lowmilaged, -95 318i-engine, for a reasonable price.
I´m just worried if it has a immobilizer. When did it come equipped as standard?

And what more do I need to run the engine except the right Ecu?
